I must say the digital version was a surprise and looks better, as the 4k player looks a little tacky on the main unit.
I don't like it, but I don't generally stare at my consoles that much so w/e.
I don't like it. It looks like a cheesy gaming PC. Also, no disc drive model? That's funny, especially after the criticism MS received.
What criticism? Giving the option of both is always a good thing?
Probably bitter trolls giving criticism cause why would anyone care when you can simply choose which you prefer.
People have been critical of MS trying to move people away from physical media. It wasn't expected from Sony though. Not since PSP Go at least.
People were criticising the name Xbox one SAD and they were criticising the price of the all digital edition. No one complained about it being all digital
Betting cash money that both the Digital Edition and the Lockhart (if it exists) will be trounced in sales by their more feature rich counterparts regardless of price difference. And everyone will be shocked. Again.
To me this has me worried as to what the price could be for the disk version as I now I won’t go full digital due to prices of old games n the fact am a sucker for disks sometimes
You will save money in the long run if you take advantage of used games properly. Even factoring digital sales.
The Design of the Ps5 looks a little bit cheap imo.
Very ugly, but I care more about functionality. If it is far more quiet than PS4 and near silent then the design is fine.
Looks sleek and like a router
Tbh I'm a little bit torn on the design, stood up I like it but laying flat it looks weird to me, but I like how eye-catching the design looks rather than a conservative more safe design I thought Sony would take.
Finally mr puggsly when Microsoft did the all digital console everyone here criticized them but now that sony does it it's the best thing since slice bread lol so much bias people here
Let's not ignore all the hate the xbox one s all digital got just saying we cant be biased just because its Sony all digital consoles suck
Cool design, reminds me of a samurai helmet with horns. Very Japanese, futuristic and sleek compared to the MS block.
Probably going to go with the digital edition. I've gone full digital with games a long time ago and I haven't bought or watched blu-rays in like a decade.
Very different. Interesting organic contours. I'll roll with it.
ps5 aesthetics is not important, personally, think it looks futuristic, plastic wings designed to suck more air for cooling as vents can be seen from close up, cooling aspect is more important, xbox series x has interesting cooling system will bizarre form factor but with continuation of xbox one aesthetics and design, minimalistic, both have differentiates in design which is good for product differentiates for the less than savvy buyer, esp when the less than savvy buyer could not differentiate the different between wii and wii u due unconvential naming convention and similar design, less likely with xbox series x and xbox one x definitely not possible ps4 pro and ps5
design is exaggerated but beautiful - better than Xbox Series X design at least
Well I like the design, alot more aesthetic than Series X... Not sure why people say they can't imagine laying it flat, doing so obviously leaves a gap in the center where it is concave, but that isn't really a problem, if anything it allows more airflow. I'm surprised nobody mentions how the concavity actually is similar to Xbox 360, but with white/black contrast and "laminated" aspect.
I see commentary slagging on the disc drive model, but I really don't have a problem with it, it's pretty straightforward embracing of assymetric layout, with almost biomechanical feeling (or maybe evolved mechanics is better description) that the video intro really emphasized (which I thought was great and engaging, if perhaps dragging on too long, but hey somebody was proud of their animation work!). Probably I would rate the disc drive element as LESS impressive than overall design though, even if I am not "offended" by it per se...
I would probably have preferred the disc drive element to be another "layer" of black, sandwiched between a middle white "ribbon/sheet" and an external facing white ribbon/sheet (that only extends half the length or whatever). That probably would be more expensive design though.
It’s look totally amazing but I will admit it does look a lot like one of those fancy routers you can buy
$499 - disk
$399 - digital edition
My bet.
@shikamaru ...I don't know about that, discless means they get every sale via PSN, which is a chunk of change even for their own 1st party if they cut out other distributors / retailer cut. On top of that is all the 3rd party games where they got nothing besides license fee for discs. That's worth taking more of a hit on, IMHO and this is exactly why retailers certainly don't like "all digitial" or discless consoles.
Doubt the drive costs that much. A $50 difference seems more likely to me unless they're loss leading the digital version to recoup via the higher margins of digital sales.
Absolutely stunning console, very unexpected!!
Awesome!!
I quite like the look of it.
Modern consoles produce all the heat of a modern gaming PC. They need to be designed and cooled like a modern gaming PC. This thing is going to have cooling issues after 7-10 years of use.
Well I would expect you need to clean the fans and so on before 7-10 years of use. Same as any PC.
Consoles seem to mostly parallel laptop hardware. Not sure what big inferrrences you are making from exterior.
That's just it though. I think laptops are junk. Short lifespans, hard to repair, and plagued with cooling issues.
Send me a cooler/fan that doesn't have to be cleaned out or maintained after 7-10 years and I'll buy it right now.
Masterpiece
I like the Xbox Series X design more. It will cool the system more efficiently. I want my PS5 to work 15 years from launch. Sadly it looks like they aren't designing Sony consoles for longevity anymore.
9/10
I think I’ll give the PS5 a 4/10 and the PS5 digital a 5/10. The disc drive seems to be built-in in a way that deliberately makes it look clunky (I still prefer discs where I can get them). The digital is sleeker, hence the higher score, but the ‘wings’ on both version just look bizarre. I’m also not keen on the colour.
5/10. I really dislike it :( The digital version looks a bit better which is good cause that's the one I will go far :)
Well at least it has some kind of design and isn't just a black brick like certain other consoles...
