Neil Druckmann Working Hard With Sony to Release The Last of Us Part II ASAP - News

Naughty Dog vice president Neil Druckmann via Twitter announced the developer is working with Sony to release their upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, The Last of Us Part II, as soon as realistically possible.

"We’re still working hard with Sony to get you the game as soon as possible," said Druckmann.

Sony Interactive Entertainment recently announced it had delayed the release of the PlayStation 4 exclusive, The Last of Us Part II and Marvel’s Iron Man VR until further noticed. Since the delay the company has pulled both games listings from the PlayStation Store and has refunded pre-orders.

Here is an overview of The Last of Us Part II:

Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors.

When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure. As she hunts those responsible one by one, she is confronted with the devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions.

I fully support this delay. 50% of your buyers come from physical media. It makes sense from a business perspective. It's better to wait for the time being.

How about if you remove the option of a physical media and only digital media like PC games. Surely majority wouldnt mind buying digital if it was the only option.

I assumed that was why MS experimented in this way when they created the Xbox S All digital box. That didn't go so well though. A lot of console gamers prefer physical media. As far as only giving them the option of digital, I don't think Sony is going to risk the bad PR that would come with such a move. They have enough to worry about this year as it is.

They obviously want it to be launched with PS5. Could have just released it digitally, which is not a bad thing since gamers should be used to it just like how PC gamers are full digital.

I prefer physical. I honestly wouldn't buy it if there was no physical version.

I also think this, based on the timing and close cooperation with Sony. it would be awkward to announce a ps5 version, which we know WILL be a thing, just a couple of months after releasing the PS4 version. and having it as a ps5 launch title would help sell the new system for Sony

Thats obviously wrong.

This might be a case of the Covid-19 excuse used to cover for a delay that is related to something else.

So perhaps there were more than problem with distribution going on.

Maybe a lack of PS5 launch titles due to human malware related game delays? This also just happens to also push TLOU2 back into the PS5 launch time frame? I don't really see the problem if that is the reason. Even if TLOU2 was ready to go, if that means a weak software launch with PS5, then delaying it for launch certainly wouldn't be a stupid move.

@Eric Yep. Its like Zelda BOTW all over again. The only worthy launch game on the Switch to buy the Switch at that time.

It is a possibility and with Sony holding so much information on PS5 they can't even be open if that is the case.

I respect Naughty Dog however they are well known for their crunch times. Not being able to do thier crunch hours is the reason for this indefinite delay.

nowhere does it say pandemic on the game. And i doubt media journalists will be linking this game to the coronavirus in a negative light. If anything more publicity for the game. Game will still sell millions.

Social Media everyone is talking about the pandemic, on streaming platforms the movies and shows regarding pandemics are also doing great numbers, so it would actually improve sales.
Not to forget that during the 29 crysis and years after the movie scene got major boost in sales as people wanted stuff to forget their problems.

@Radek same here in Australia. 1st party games on Switch are $10 more expensive than in stores. But you get $4 worth of coins back which can be used for future purchases.

I’m sure that I read they wanted to have a good release for everyone so that people can enjoy the game at the same time. They are probably trying to sort out how soon they can manage game production and distribution.

They also want every fan to be able to get it at the same time, and with 50% of customers prefering physical (me included) having only PSN release doesn't cut it.

That is what they said, take what you want out of it.
They also delayed Iron Man VR, is it a flagship title for PS5 as well?
