Infinity Ward Responds to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Being the End of the Story - News
by William D'Angelo , posted 2 days ago / 1,714 ViewsActivision chief marketing officer Tyler Bahl last week stated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be the final entry in the new series of Modern Warfare games.
"I don’t want to give any spoilers, but this is going to be the epic conclusion of this recent series of Modern Warfare," Bahl said at the time. "It’s not that some characters and pieces can’t live on beyond this and be reinvented. But we’re excited by closing this chapter and launching a new one."
Infinity Ward narrative director Jeff Negus speaking with IGN when asked, "Is this the end of the rebooted Modern Warfare story?" stated that he doesn't know. However, it will at least pay off the setups in the previous entries.
"It's a good question, and you'll not love the answer," said Negus.
"I don't know. What I do know is we tried to tell a definitive, conclusive story in that we were trying to set up, or rather pay off the setups, answer things that had been posed as questions, push characters into new territory that they've never been in before, raise the stakes, push the conflict."

He did reveal "there wasn't a long-term plan. Similar to a television show where you got a first season, it comes out, people like it, cool, there's going to be another one. If you do it well, what you built can be built upon in a way where you can use it as a foundation and then push on top of that to build and go to new places.
"Four, that was of particular importance for us. Not many games get a four, let alone one that has these kinds of characters that have gone through the things they've gone through. And so while there wasn't a long-term plan necessarily for the story specifically from 2019, we definitely are self-reflexive in a way where we're looking back at the same time as being in the present in order to inform it and make it more impactful."
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch for the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Microsoft Store, and Battle.net on October 23.
