Analyst: PS4 Sales in 2020 Will Likely be Below 10 Million Units

Analyst: PS4 Sales in 2020 Will Likely be Below 10 Million Units - Sales

by William D'Angelo , posted on 01 March 2020 / 4,403 Views

Senior Analyst at Niko Partners Daniel Ahmad via Twitter has predicted the PlayStation 4 will likely sell below 10 million units in 2020.

Sony sold 14.4 million PlayStation 4 consoles in 2019, which is below the 18 million sold in 2018. Sales below 10 million would represent a year-over-year drop of more than 30 percent.

Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan during Sony's CES 2020 keynote announced the PlayStation 4 has sold-through 106 million units to consumers as of December 31, 2019.

Price cut and the best exclusive line up since launch. I think it can do 10m

It's rare that a company does a significant price cut the same year they want to launch a new console. Like they wont try to push it, it will all be about PS5 news almost all year.

Yes it is very likely that it won't reach 10M, that will put it to sell 15M after PS5 release to beat the 130M predictions of many.

I feel like it'll do a little more than 10 million personally, but I'm no analyst

And yet your opinion is just as credible as any analyst.

I'm just gonna bet and say it does over 10 million.

Agreed. Probably not much over 10M, but I think it will hit it. Definitely will if they lower the price to $250.

Yeah, the PS4 will do more than 10 million this year IMO. I am betting on 11-12. So ~117 million by the end of the year and ~130 LT.

Yeah, I still stand by my 130 million LT prediction from years ago. I think it can do it, or at least come just shy of it.

If they cut the price then it will. Considering exclusives like ff7 remake, last of us 2 and ghost it probably will hit 10 mil.

That’d be a hell of a crap YoY. Sony seems pretty stuck on that $299 price tag, so this prediction may be accurate. If they do a permanent $199 price tag soon, I can see them doing 12 - 13 million this FY.

I remember at the start of this gen i had a discussion with him that ps4 could easily reach 100mill and he said noo, at the end he.blocked me. And look where we are now. Ps4 can easily reach 10mil this year if sony WANTS it, that damn system is stil 300 bucks.

Ff7 wil be huge, the last of us2 wil sell consoles to and if sony again wants it a simple 50 or even 100 dollar drop would be big.

it's noted that end of 2012, the 3rd iteration of PS3 was released, super slim which was cheaper and scaled back, presumably sony will do something similar with ps4 slim, at the moment ps4 slim is at US$250/HK$2,180/GBP250/EURO300, then it make sense for a cheaper ps4 super slim at US$180/HK$1,500/GBP170/EURO220, probably with scaled back or simplier features such as mechanical button to access disc, 500gb hdd, etc

by doing this, they are slightly increasing longevity of the console, probably by the 10 year in 2023, PS4 will achieve sales in region of 140mil, but interesting aspect, will Nintendo switch catch up this figure by then

I think Sony’s focus will soon shift completely to PS5.
I don’t think they’ll have much interest in maintaining PS4 as a low budget, low profit option when they can completely focus on bringing people to the PS5. I can’t see PS4 sales even reaching 130 million.

With all the fantastic games that come out I think it will be a little over 10 million.

Don't forget PS2 during 2009 was still selling around 5 million units even after 2 years of release of PS3, the silm PS2 was released in 2006
