Best Horror Game of 2015

Best Horror Game of 2015 - Article

by Karl Koebke , posted on 01 January 2016 / 7,936 Views

A heightened sense of immersion through player agency is the best answer to the question of what makes video games unique as a medium, and the horror genre is probably one of the best examples of that ideal. Games that go bump in the night give fans all the thrill of being chased by a murderous psychopath without the tiring aerobic exercise.

Among this year’s nominees we have a tale of underwater terror, a return to what makes Resident Evil great, a look inside the mind of a crazed painter, and a cheesy teen slasher flick turned game. Adrenaline junky gamers have definitely had a great year, but it’s time to crown the king of terror in 2015.

The Nominees:

SOMA

Until Dawn

 Until Dawn

Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Layers of Fear

And the Winner is...

Until Dawn

Winner: Until Dawn

Community's Choice - Until Dawn (52% of the votes)

As a move-focused title that was originally developed for the PlayStation 3 and then completely redone for the PlayStation 4, it’s understandable that Until Dawn left some concerned. What brave gamers eventually got, however, was a brilliant horror-based take on the adventure stylings of series such as the Walking Dead, with a focus on a split narrative through player choice.

Similar to Heavy Rain before it, tension was maintained throughout the story by having multiple player controlled characters that could actually die without being followed by a game over screen and a scene redo. Coupled with impressive presentation and unexpectedly well implemented motion control mechanics, this sense of tension is what makes Until Dawn the Best Horror Game of 2015.

D: No FFrame 5.... Oh well, I don't got much to say about horror games this year. I only played Frame 5 among the new horror games.

Lol, the amount of dislike from certain comunity. You can say what you want, Soma was better.

Confirmation bias at its finest. You clearly had no problem with that other fanbase and the number (not amount) of dislikes anyone got for saying anything other than Splatoon is the best thing since sliced bread. When *you are the one getting the dislikes, there is something wrong with the fanbase.
And obviously in the other comment where you said #salt it was fine. When someone says the same thing to you, not so much. #gotit

Confirmation bias my ass, Soma is better for me, period, and also for critics, oh, I guess they are biased too. That game is also on Ps4 btw, in fact is the only console where the game is and Im not saying anything bad about Until Dawn, this is only my fucking opinion, if you dont like it get out of here.

And Halo 5 has a better meta than Splatoon. Are the critics biased or something? Also, chill out. No one said it's not your fucking opinion. Don't use stupid hashtags and then complain when others do the same. If you don't like my opinion of your opinion, get out of here (see how silly that sounds?)

The difference is I was not downplaying any game or making excuses why the game has won, I was simply saying that Soma, a game that few people has played, was better, thats the only thing I literally said "Soma was better", and as a result here we are, with you calling me salty and biased for thinking soma, a ps4 console exclusive, is better. Keep up the good work.

You are the one that called me salty just for saying "Soma is the best", when I was not saying anything bad about any game. From where the dislikes are coming is obvious when just few minutes after stating a healthy opinion 2 persons from that comunity jumped over me, just for saying that I like Soma more, is pathetic and it says a lot.

You know what's pathetic? A guy simply saying that COD should have been nominated in the best shooter game category, while also pointing out why in his opinion Splatoon won the popularity competition, and a guy replying with #salt. Then the same guy acting all defensive when someone points out how ridiculous and childish it is to act like that. Apparently, when he acts immature, it's ok. When others do, he won't stand for it. Give me a break.
Also, you calling your own opinion "healthy" or whatever, it doesn't magically make it so. The other user had just as much right to state his opinion as you did. There was nothing wrong with either opinion, other than the fact that you failed to reply to Sprash on whether you've played them all. How would you know that Soma is better than Until Dawn when you don't even own a ps4? That's right. You don't. I'm done here.
