Wii U Shipments Top 10M, Nintendo Returns to Profits - News

Nintendo has returned to profits in its latest quarter after a loss in the previous quarter.

In the latest quarter, which ended on June 30, Nintendo posted revenues up 21 percent to ¥90.2 billion ($729 million). After a loss of ¥9.9 billion last quarter the company posted a net profit of ¥8.3 billion ($67 million) in this quarter.

Lifetime Wii U shipments have surpassed the 10 million mark. Nintendo shipped 470,000 Wii U consoles during the quarter, down from 510,000 units a year ago. In Japan, shipments increased to 150,000 units, from just 60,000 units a year ago. In the US sales increased from 90,000 units to 190,000 units.

The line of Nintendo 3DS handhelds shipped 1.01 million units during the quarter. That is up from 820,000 units a year ago. 3DS software sales fell to 7.92 million units, from 8.57 million units.

Splatoon has managed to sell a total of 1.62 million units worldwide. The figure includes retail and digital sales.

VGC has the Wii U at 10 million sold as of the end of June. Nintendo has the Wii U at 10 million shipped at the end of July. VGC is overtracking the Wii U.
