NBA 2K13 01

At E3 2012 I got a chance to sit down with the developers of NBA 2K13 who showed me their plan to follow up several years’ worth of great basketball action. And while I was promised that Snoop Dogg would show up to demo the game with me (he never did-izzle) I still left 2K’s booth very impressed and confident that the kings of the virtual court would be well placed for a repeat.

With NBA 2K13 the developers gave themselves one major goal and that’s to make the game resemble - as much as possible - the actual NBA experience. To accomplish this goal they are introducing several small yet important elements to help make this a reality. First and foremost are a series of gameplay tweaks like idle dribbling, that will help you dictate the flow and pace of the game.

By simply pre-ordering the game (and for no extra charge!) you get access to the NBA All-Star Game, complete with slam dunk competition (which is a mash up of Guitar Hero and basketball); three-point contest and rising stars contest will all be present. Finally, in the ‘My Player’ mode, if you perform well enough and get enough accolades your character will be invited to the All-Star weekend.

All in all I was very impressed with what I saw from NBA 2K12. Every indication is that 2K Sports will not only equal the quality of past instalments, but surpass them in many ways, which is definitely no small feat.  NBA 2K12 will be releasing on October 2nd for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC, and will also be available at launch (whenever that is) for the Wii U.
