Welcome to the VGChartz Gap charts. The charts will be updated monthly and each article will focus on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation, as well as comparing the 8th generation consoles. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.
3DS Vs. DS Global:
Gap change in latest month: 1,323,647 - DS
Gap change over last 12 months: 16,188,641 - DS
Total Lead: 25,568,352 – DS
3DS Total Sales: 43,846,675
DS Total Sales: 69,415,027
In the latest month of sales for the 3DS, the gap grew 1,323,647 units in favor of its predecessor the DS. The DS currently leads by 25,568,352 in the first 40 months. Over the last 12 months the DS has gained 16,188,641 units on the 3DS. The gap is expected to continue to grow in favor of the DS.
An important note is that the two handhelds launched at different times of the year. The DS first launched in November 2004, while the 3DS launched in February 2011. The 3DS has sold 43,846,675 units in the first 36 months, and the DS 69,415,027 units.

Ok, so the 3DS isn't doing as well as the DS, but it's still doing pretty darn good.
Even if the old Gen is almost over already - can you make some DS -vs- Wii Gap chartes? That would be fun to see even though in the end DS has got a huge adavantage. But especially in the first two years i guess Wii was sooo much stronger.
Or maybe PS3 -vs- XBOne, PS4 -vs- X360 - what about that? ;)

Compared to GBA, 3DS is going its way. DS's sales was so special. Nothing can not be compared to it.
