Yes it's better than Hawx and this isn't even the best AC game.

you forget to take in the $$$ of downloadable content on xbl which Namco must have made a lot on considering how much DLC is up just for this game..

Dude, selling less doesnt mean selling badly, the game sol reasonably, and didnt cost much to make

THERE IS NO WAY ROUND THIS OWNAGE.

And you are just plain blind if you realise that the 360 doesnt have a userbase as big as the. And because you like to deny plain facts hers a bit of a reminder

PS2 userbase - 80-100 million
360 userbase - 10-18 million

Any way round this? NO

Any other console that wouldve sold this game? NO

Wake up and smell the coffee, you are just setting your own rules because you blind to the facts.

Why do you insist on this silly argument of "it's not a bomb because the 360 didn't sell as much as the PS2." That's not how life works friend. Companies need to make money. Companies that make less money this gen than last gen are going out of business, if you hadn't noticed.

Let's try simple math:

+ Production cost - Sales = Less Money.

Let's be nice, and say costs only went up 1.5X from previous Ace Combat games (that's a ridiculous statement because any realistic estimate has dev costs doubling for any game, and this game couldn't reuse assets like the PS2 games, but I'm doing this for your benefit).

Now, let's notice that sales are now 1/3 of the previous generation...

Even by the most basic estimates this game made a tiny fraction of what it used to.

And don't give me that "the 360 didn't sell as much as the PS2" bullshit, because as is obvious by many other 360 games that are heavily dependent on North American sales, that really doesn't matter. While dozens of other franchises sold as much or more than last gen on the 360 Ace Combat 6 lost 66% of its sales, and raised costs through the roof!

Oh, and next time you insult me will be the last thing you type on this site.

Exactly, im guessing this game has a hardcore following, you can expect them to plunk down on DLC

Barozi posted 04/01/2009, 12:05
However I'm sure they make a crapload of money with the DLC's.
It's getting ridiculous.

No you just ignored everything i said kid, this game did not bomb, you do realise a game doesnt have to sell millions of copies to be a profit, the game sold to expectations given the 360 userbase at the time.

15 million vs 80 million? Did you REALLY think Namco were expecting this to sell as well as the PS2 games? Do you really think they made this game on a gamble that they will sell 2.5 million copies with a userbase a FRACTION of the size?

And as for dev costs, again thanks for ignoring my post, but Namco themselves said the game didnt cost much to make because much of the graphics are HD satellite images.

The main source of sales for the game wasn't Japan. Not at all http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=22®ion=All

The game bombed in America, and clearly in Others too since we don't have Others numbers and they are only reporting 100-200K shipped above our numbers.

This bombed in America on the highest selling American software system. This is a bomb for Namco. The sooner you come to terms with that, the better you'll feel. Every great game ever doesn't end up being a success. This is a bomb because dev costs went way up and sales went way down. It's too bad, but that's life, it ain't perfect. It doesn't stop the game from being great.

Do you really think the developers were expecting to sell millions when the main source of sales for the series was Japan, not forgetting the XBOX 360s overall userbase is nowhere near that of the PSone and PS2?

The game is a success, sold 100k in Japan with NO bundles, that a massive success for the 360 in general. Also, its listing 470k for NA, again thats pretty good if you ask me.

We dont know Others, but back when this was listed as 500k, Namco announced 700k shipped, now that it is being listed as 600k, you can expect that the shipped number is at least 800k if not more. The game has now been listed as a Platinum Hit and itll continue to sell a bit more

Lastly, Namco said the game didnt cost that much because much of the games graphics were just HD satellite pictures. All in all, this game sold pretty nicely, and im guessing the next one will at least sell that

It's too bad this bombed so bad in the US. I just bought it and it's freaking awesome.

There's no way the devs and pubs are happy with this after the previous AC games were 3 million plus sellers. You can't tell me anyone is happy with sales being cut down to 1/3 and costs more than doubling. That's just total BS. This was a bomb. Again, too bad, cause it's an awesome game, but be a realist.

700k shipped to publishers is as good as sold. For a hardcore game on a console that isnt exactly the most popular, theyve made their money and anything more is an extra. Those units are sold to retailers, theyve got the revenue, what happens to those units in stores is no concern now.

They are more than happy as i remember that the Vesperia devs were saying that even though the graphics in the game are incredible, much of it is just satellite imagery, all the devs had to do as touch it up for the game. So the cost for the game was pretty low.

Really? 750k? Can i have a link

Either way, thats a nice number, they dont need that many consumer sales as theyve sold that many to retailers hence the money is made

Not bad, i think EU sales will be around 100k min, but at least Namco have got the flight thing going on in consoles. HAUX is Tom Clancy's answer so the market should expand

All in all, i think Namco have made a profit, and one greater than what they wouldve if they released on PS3. The most a game even gets in Japan for PS3 is around 300k, thats the absolute max so far, but the NA sales wouldve sucked as at the time it was getting outsold by GBA...
