Forums - Sales Discussion - 2007 vs 2008 holiday software sales (per console and per company)

I may do one per publisher later, which should also be interesting.

Interesting numbers, and "holy shit!" numbers for the big N. Nice work!

PSP software...ouchtown, population you

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Sonys number was quite interesting. What PS3 had won in a year, was lost by PS2 and PSP.

And yeah, 360 seems to be selling the same amount of software that all the Sony platforms sell combined.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Interesting, I hadn't noticed that last part. That plays a part in explaining why Microsoft is currently more profitable than Sony, they only need to market and maintain one platform to sell all that software.

Another surprise is PSP's decline in software sales... Not something I was expecting for this year.

I can't believe the difference between DS and PSP! How can that be?? Why arent PSP owners buy games (apart from some piracy)?

Nintendo are beasts in every selling aspect, ouch at the PSP though. 2.5 million of those came from Monster Hunter so damn, not good at all. O_O Sony have only themselves to blame for this though, we got a GOW game, a FF spin off and thats it for the PSP. It's as though Sony are like "we have made profit on PSP hardware and we f****** up making this piracy proof but dont worry, we will fix that for PSP2" which is not a good idea.

@slimbeast... part of the reason is that this is based off VGC figures, which are fine for Japan and America, but in PAL regions all 6 consoles are missing a lot of software, but the PSP is missing the most by a long shot.

Even so, adding in the missing will likely put the DS up to about 49 million, and the PSP might go up to 9 million, which is still a huge difference.

@NJ5..... Which 7 weeks have you used to class as "holiday" sales by the way?

@TWRoO: The last 7 weeks for which there's data (meaning from the first week of November).

So presumably the equivalent weeks you used for 2007 are skewed 2 days forward, which means they are comparitively closer to Christmas and would (even if the market stayed the same size) have been slightly larger than this year.
