Weekly Sales Analysis, 22 October 2011 - Batman: Arkham City

Batman: Arkham City is the biggest debut this week, with combined sales of 1.74 million. Overall hardware sales are up week on week as the holidays are nearing and year on year is down less 20,000. There are eight debuts in the top 50, up from four last week. Software milestones this week: Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 (PS3) passes the one million mark. 10 games sold over 100,000, down from 12 last week, and the top 25 sold over 50,000, up from 18 last week.
Worldwide Hardware

Week on week sales is up for every platform, except for the PSP. The PlayStation 3 is at the top with sales of 245,000, which is up 20,000 (9%). The 3DS is up 42,000 (22%) to 230,000 units. The Xbox 360 is up 4,000 (2%) to 195,000 units sold. The Wii is up 26,000 (24%) to 134,000 units sold. The DS sold 79,000 units, which is up 7,000 (10%) compared to last week. The PSP is down 2,000 (-3%) to 74,000 units. Total week on week sales are up 97,000 (11%) to 957,000.
Year on year sales are down for every platform, except for the Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 is down 8,000 (-3%), the Wii is down 49,000 (-27%), and the Xbox 360 is up 18,000 (10%). The PSP is down 41,000 (-36%) and the DS is down a massive 169,000 (-68%). Total year on year sales are down 19,000 (-2%).

All three home consoles have made decent increases the last couple of weeks as the holidays are right around the corner and as the biggest games of the year launch. The PlayStation 3 has a 43 percent market share; the Xbox 360 has a 34 percent market share; and the Wii has a 23 percent market share. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are in first and second respectively for a fourth straight week and the Wii is in third for a 13th week. Compared with ten weeks ago all three home consoles are up.

3DS remains well ahead of the DS and PSP outselling both of them combined for an 11th straight week. The DS is slightly above the PSP this week after falling to third for three weeks. The DS has a 52 percent market share this week for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 48 percent. Compared with ten weeks ago 3DS sales are up and the DS and PSP sales are down.
Worldwide Software
Eight games debuted in the top 50 this week, up from four last week. Batman: Arkham City (PS3) has debuted at the top this week with sales of 896,000. The Xbox 360 version debuted right behind it in the second position with sales of 843,000. The game launched in the Americas and EMEAA and will be in next week’s chart for Japan.
Football Manager 2012 (PC) debuted at number four with sales of 184,000. The game launched in EMEAA with no plans to be released elsewhere.
The Sims 3: Pets (PC) debuted at number six with sales of 153,000. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number 32 with sales of 34,000 and the PlayStation 3 version debuted at number 37 with sales of 29,000. The game launched in all three regions worldwide.
Gekijouban Macross F: Sayonara no Tsubasa - Hybrid Pack (PS3) debuted at number seven with sales of 142,000. The game launched in Japan with no plans to be released elsewhere.
Ratchet & Clank All 4 One (PS3) debuted at number ten with sales of 104,000. The game launched in all three regions worldwide.
Rocksmith (X360) debuted at number 15 with sales of 76,000. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number 23 with sales of 56,000. The game launched in the Americas with no plans to be released elsewhere.
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Impact (PSP) debuted at number 16 with sales of 67,000. The game launched in all three regions worldwide.
Professor Layton and the Last Specter (DS) debuted at number 21 with sales of 59,000. The game launched in the Americas and will be in next week’s chart for EMEAA. It also launched in Japan nearly two years ago.
Other games in the top 10 that are not debuts include Forza Motorsport 4 (X360) at number three with sales of 224,000. FIFA Soccer 12 (PS3) is at number five with sales of 175,000. Just Dance 3 (Wii) is at number eight with sales of 135,000. Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 (PS3) is at number nine with sales of 107,000.

Week on week software totals are up for every platform. The PlayStation3 takes the top spot this week with 3.07 million games sold, an increase of 915,000 (42%). The Xbox 360 sold 2.78 million games, an increase of 424,000 (18%). Wii software sales are up 274,000 (18%) to 1.76 million. The DS sold 1.07 million games, which is up 2263,000 (33%). PSP game sales are up 44,000 (12%) to 400,000 games sold. The 3DS sold 257,000 games, an increase of 49,000 (24%). Total combined software is up 1.97 million (27%) week on week to 9.33 million.
Year on year software totals are down for every platform, except for the PlayStation is up and the Xbox 360 which is flat The PlayStation 3 is up 421,000 (16%), the Wii is down 1.20 million (-41%) and the Xbox 360 is down just 10,000 (0%). The DS is down 928,000 (-47%) and the PSP is down 236,000 (-37%). Total combined software is down 1.69 million (-15%) games sold year on year.

PlayStation 3 software sales take the top spot this week and for the seventh time in ten weeks. The PlayStation 3 has a 40 percent market share, the Xbox 360 with 37 percent, and the Wii with 23 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago all three home consoles are up.

The DS remains at the top as the gap between it and the PSP grow. The DS has a 73 percent market share and the PSP has a 27 percent market share. 3DS software sales remain in well third. Compared to ten weeks ago the DS is up and the PSP and 3DS are down.
