99 Euro PSP, Sans Wi-Fi Coming to Europe this Fall - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 16 August 2011 / 6,693 Views

With the PS Vita not releasing in Western markets in 2011, Sony has announced that a new PSP model will launch in Europe later this year. The new model will essentially be a PSP with UMD that looks like previous models. Unlike previous models though, Sony has cut out Wi-Fi functionality to cut costs, allowing the device to sell for 99 Euros in Europe to those who might wish to buy PSP on a tight budget.

The budget PSP coming to Europe appears to be exclusive to that region - there is currently no indication that SCEA, SCEAA, or SCEJ will release the device in their respective markets. Sony says the newest PSP model can still play downloadable games:

"While PSP E-1000 does not include Wi-Fi, it will still provides access to the full catalogue of PSP games either on UMD or from PlayStation Store via Media Go. The design is also slightly different, with a Charcoal Black finish – the same as on the slimmer PS3 model – to give more of a matte feel."

That's 30 euros less than a DSL and 70 less than a DSL XL.

Sounds like a good strategy to fight the DS/XL/3DS in Europe.

99 Euros without Wifi isn't a great deal when you can buy it for 150 dolars and wifi in EUA.

Damn, Sony is really putting pressure on Ninty and Microsoft, first a $250 PS3 and now a $100 PSP...is going to be interesting to see what Ninty and Microsoft are going to do!

Good move. I think a lot of the kids in Europe owning PSPs never once used the Wi-Fi anyway. And this way, the people who just want it for retail games and/or emulation don't have to pay through the nose.

if you like portable gaming, you can't go wrong with 100 dollars PSP. considering it's much cheaper than even the DS

The Euro's capital worth is not greater than the dollar, and it will never happen unless China, Hong Kong, and Japan abandon the dollar for the euro.
