VGChartz Gap Charts, May 2011 Update - News

Here we have three charts representative of the three main regions tracked by VGChartz, and a global chart which brings all of the data together. The line on each graph represents the gap in the install base (sales through to consumers), and the title indicates which console is in the lead in the particular region covered. Also included is an HD Vs. Wii Global Chart.
Americas:
Lead: 11,989,353 - Xbox 360
X360 and PS3 continue their YoY growth streak for 2011 in the U.S, 360 is still consistantly selling more and will widen the gap significantly towards the end of the year. We could see the gap north of 15 million depending on how Microsoft plays its cards.
EMEAA:
Lead: 3,459,975 - PlayStation 3
Gains for the PS3 have somewhat slowed, but then that is expected this time of year. PS3 should increase the lead to at least 4 million by the end of the year with a price cut from Sony.
Japan:
Lead: 5,159,468 - PlayStation 3
PS3 gains 50k over the 360 in Japan for the month of May. Slow gains but gains nonetheless.
Global:
Lead: 3,369,910 - Xbox 360
The global gap drops 50k this month, which should continue until we see price cuts in August/September. 
Wii Vs. HD:
Lead: 17,921,730 - High Definition
Despite a price cut and new bundle in the middle of May, the HD gap grows over 500k. With Microsoft and Sony both expect to outsell Wii from here on out, the gap should be around 25 million by the end of the year.

Kind of ironic. Even as recently as late last year most people would have thought that there was no way 360 could win in Americas and PS3 in EMEAA. Now there's a very real chance it could happen in both cases. Although I'd say PS3 winning in EMEAA is more likely assuming Sony continue to aggressively market the PS3 in developing markets, especially once it enters the sub-$200 range.

Because, if you look at the charts, it seemed at one point as though the Wii could outsell them both together. The chart should probably be removed now, though.
Yeah Wii vs HD is really pointless now :/

Kinect and the "Slim" saved the XBOX 360 from falling flat on its face. I am amazed at how well the XBOX 360 continues to sell in America though, with or without Kinect.
I like how 2 chartz are red.
I do not understand these charts at all. And why do it have to be Wii Vs HD. Wii against Playstation3 & Xbox360 together.
