Americas Preorders Chart, 06th Mar 2010

Brett Walton, on 08 March 2010, 9,322 views

Final Fantasy XIII pre-orders hit 475,000 units this week, with over 70% of those for the PS3 version. For week one sales, I don't expect the split to be quite as strongly in favour of the PS3 version because whereas a lot of loyal Final Fantasy fans (the kind who would pre-order) will be PS3 owners, the more casual buyers will be more evenly split between consoles, as well as the Xbox360 bundle that is being offered and heavier advertising for the 360 version. For week one sales, I'd estimate around 400,000 on PS3 and 250,000 on Xbox 360.

Looking ahead to the following week, God of War III and Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver look like fighting it out in a straight battle for top spot. Both should do around 600,000 - 700,000 units week one in the Americas but it is hard to call a winner at the moment, it will be close. Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening should be good for nearly 100,000 units in week one across 360 and PS3 - not bad for an expansion pack.

April sees a bit of a quiet period for big new releases, only Splinter Cell: Conviction looking like breaking 200,000 in week one at the moment. Monster Hunter Tri and Super Street Fighter 2 should do well for Capcom and heading into May we see the likes of Alan Wake, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Red Dead Redemption and Lost Planet 2 which should all do well.

The GT5 faith keeps steadily growing, but no "Nascar effect" ?
GOW3 will hit 1m the first week...

*Sound Of Rain (on 09 March 2010)

G.O.W.3 at 425K is decent but it looks like it won't be the HUGE 4 Million lifetime worldwide seller that all of the Sony fans said it would be when I said in my thread that Pikmin 3 would outsell it worldwide. Also when I said that I would bet someone that Pikmin 3 would outsell it worldwide no one would bet. Well it looks like I was closer to the real numbers for G.O.W.3. Looks like the only one Sony has left that could be a HUGE generation turn point could be Gran Turismo 5!

yo_john117 (on 09 March 2010)

Wow Halo Reach in 9th place already! so amazing!

gustave154 (on 09 March 2010)

god of war 3 please get a massive boost i hope sony pumps up the advertising!!!

redux_4 (on 09 March 2010)

go Zhu Zhu pets!

GranTurismoHelperMax (on 08 March 2010)

well i think its just anticipation for the reason why ff13 isnt doing as well as people think. if u think about it, bc2 was released last week and next week a even bigger game is coming out, not to mention its multi-platform means less sales for the ps3 ver and yakuza 3, a small game, may hurt its sales a little bit.

Chairman-Mao (on 08 March 2010)

Wow, 3 weeks from now GT5 could be 2nd or 3rd. The next 2 weeks will be great with FF13 and GoW3

DEATH775 (on 08 March 2010)

I'm getting the GoW 3 Ultimate Trilogy

HanzoTheRazor (on 08 March 2010)

Go GOW III!

Nintendogamer (on 08 March 2010)

Super mario galaxy 2 likely to be in 4th position next time, depends if they get about 4,000 pre-orders added on to that total. Wow not bad.

Tridrakious (on 08 March 2010)

I don't think the 360 version of FF XIII will be as close as the author says.

Other than that. Pretty good pre-orders chart.

crissindahouse (on 08 March 2010)

what are you all talking about ff13 on xbox will be the last one for xbox or something like that? why shouldnt square release the next games on xbox as well? because it will sell much less than the ps3 version?

yeah the most xbox or ps3 games sold less than ff13 will sell on 360 so they all should stop selling their games!

we just need 5 games on this planet! i mean maybe they wont get much money from the sells but i dont think that they will sell less than the conversion for 360 did cost. so profit is profit who cares how much it sells when they make more money as with a ps3 only game?

binary solo (on 08 March 2010)

Surely Pokemon will have a higher ratio of walk-in buyers vs pre-orders than GoWIII. You've gotta give the number 1 slot for that week to to HG/SS even if GoW III has a 50K+ lead in pre-orders. Actually I reckon GoW III will have a relatively low number of walk in buyers. I think GoW III will be closer to 600K and HG/SS closer to 700K.

Conviction gonna be all on its lonesome with 5 figures probably until it releases.

enragedorange (on 08 March 2010)

why are some people so annoying about FF coming to 360. Hell im getting it for my PS3 but let people in other systems get to enjoy the game as well. Its sales for the 360 will definetly be good. Square Enix probably thought it was gonna sell better, but its not a dissapointment at all. They will defenitly make a bigger profit then if it had stayed exclusive.

libellule (on 08 March 2010)

SOLIDSNAKE08,

be sure they were paid by MS to port the game, to advertise the game and bundle it !

ti is a win/win for SE ...

SOLIDSNAKE08 (on 08 March 2010)

i wonder what square enix are thinking? its obvious FFXIII isnt going to sell very well on the 360 compared to the ps3. were they really expecting to sell like crazy on the 360? they just wasted their time porting it and downgrading the game.

ioi (on 08 March 2010)

where's the guy who thought it would only sell 200k week one or something?

darthdevidem01 (on 08 March 2010)

FF13 will sell more than FF12 in week 1 but lets all call its debut disappointing!! YAY!

Winters (on 08 March 2010)

If GT5 is released towards the end of the year, which most people are betting on, will it be the game that has featured in more Pre-order charts than any other game? Could we have some numbers for this? It would be interesting to see...we are mid March, maybe more than 6 months to go and with many weeks already in the charts i cannot recall a game which has been or will be present for such a long period. Anyone with me?

aragod (on 08 March 2010)

Splinter Cell impressive, FFXIII combined aswell, GoW III easy taking the top.

dirkd2323 (on 08 March 2010)

Numbers are were I thought they would be, Sony looking to have some good software sales. GOW3 so close I can taste it.

FaRmLaNd (on 08 March 2010)

FF13 pre-orders look dissapointing for me, even when you put both versions together its pretty dissapointing considering how long the game was in development.

A Bad Clown (on 08 March 2010)

Once this week is over, I think Splinter Cell will go back to 30,000-40,000 a week.

parisgaming (on 08 March 2010)

god of war!! go! good for splinter cell,( it's a great exclusive). ff 13 will rock. In my shop, I've got 170 ff13 preorders and 45 x360 (lol)....

Hyruken (on 08 March 2010)

Lookslike FFXIII might not make a million combined on 360 and PS3 in 1st week which would be very surprising. In fact just around 300k on PS3 alone seems pretty dissapointing to me. Maybe the reviews have played some part in that?

Miguel_Zorro (on 08 March 2010)

Is it just me, or is there not very many good games scheduled for release in April/May/June/July? After GOW, Pokemon and FFXIII are released, the pre-order list is going to be dominated by games that don't have a release date.

coolbeans (on 08 March 2010)

Alan Wake climbing well already. Should start nabbing 5k+ consistently 'til it's release. Gratz to Metro 2033 as well.

SnowFlow (on 08 March 2010)

Come on Monster Hunter 3! I did my part and pre-ordered it.

zone16 (on 08 March 2010)

FFXIII is gonna sell so badly on 360 that the next FF will probably be an exclusive, that is, if another FF ever comes out after this one being of lower quality than its predecessors.

meatloaf73 (on 08 March 2010)

picking up GOW 3 at midnight release :)

arcane_chaos (on 08 March 2010)

picking up FFXIII at midnight release! woot!

Kantor (on 08 March 2010)

God of War just refuses to go up...

Ah well, I suppose 450,000 pre-orders at launch isn't bad. Not great, but not bad.

restored_lost (on 08 March 2010)

this chart is gonna be so empty in 2 weeks lol.

Bruno Muñoz (on 08 March 2010)

METRO 2033, Resonance of Fate, Just Cause 2, Red Steel 2 and Yakuza 3 are going to bomb hard.

leatherhat (on 08 March 2010)

@libellule

I didn't say same dev, I said same guys. 4Agames splitoff from GSC to make Metro 2033

chocoloco (on 08 March 2010)

This preorders chart will be boring for a bit after final fantasy and God of War drop. I hope more people become interested in Alan Wake.

loy310 (on 08 March 2010)

Pretty much confirmed that Saga wont be releasing Yakuza 4 in the West.

huaxiong90 (on 08 March 2010)

@libellule: It should appeal to the same fanbase.

Marco (on 08 March 2010)

Very good for God of War 3 and Final Fantasy 13. Ps3-FF is better, yes.

Yakuza 3 - goooooo, it is a awesome game!

Ps3 has the best LineUp 2010!

libellule (on 08 March 2010)

@huaxiong90,

WAIT

STALKER was MORE hyped than alan Wake at the release date

this game has been showcased during YEARS at each E3 people expecting the game to best FPS/RPG game ever ...

The hype for Metro2033 is nowhere near the one of STALKER

libellule (on 08 March 2010)

@leatherhat

IMO Metro2033 is NOT made by GSC

GSC made STALKER games, NOT Metro2033

ps3_jrpg_gamer (on 08 March 2010)

I expect a 500k opening for ps3 and 200k on 360 i know some people that have 360 and planning to buy ps3 to play FF13 even if it is on 360 also because they think final fantasy+play station, greek stores stock only the ps3 version and there are not many willing to buy this game on 360

Dark Odin (on 08 March 2010)

bad numbers for yakuza... a opening of only 50k maybe.

scottie (on 08 March 2010)

6 titles for the Nintendo consoles is a fair achievement, considering the usual preorder levels for the DS and Wii

huaxiong90 (on 08 March 2010)

MHT lookin' good.

Buzzi (on 08 March 2010)

Monster Hunter 3 is doing well, I'm quite sure it'll pass 100k preorders (which means 150+k opening I think).

ChaosHead (on 08 March 2010)

Cmon nintendo, please give us super mario on ps3 :P. Anyway, look at gt5 preorders... just wow.

Toddifer (on 08 March 2010)

I wonder what the Gamestop MHTri demo will do for pre-orders...I'm going to grab a demo today and decide whether I want to pre-order it or not...

freddy1403 (on 08 March 2010)

go!!! red steel 2 and monster hunter 3

Nintendogamer (on 08 March 2010)

Monster hunter tri doing well, And I expect to see SMG2 i nthe top 3 after 4 weeks or so. Well done Pokemon!

Cold Light (on 08 March 2010)

Go GT5 and ModNation Racers!

huaxiong90 (on 08 March 2010)

Not too shabby for Yakuza 3.

huaxiong90 (on 08 March 2010)

GT5 and Halo: Reach are going to be humongous.

V-r0cK (on 08 March 2010)

Yakuza 3!!

huaxiong90 (on 08 March 2010)

@iWarMachine: Again, hope you're right.

huaxiong90 (on 08 March 2010)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R., a PC exclusive and a similar game to Metro 2033 which was also developed by an Eastern European developer and published by THQ, sold 2 million on PC.

It'll be fine. I'm fairly certain of this.

AlkamistStar (on 08 March 2010)

Count my pre-order in for GOW3, and Splinter Cell Conviction

hunter_alien (on 08 March 2010)

@aken: the game will do 2 million in Japan and 3 million at least in the US. I dont know about Others, but 2 million + should be certain. This is all in worst case, but if the legs are good it could do 8 million+ worldwide. I agree that it wont be the SE savior that many hoped for, but I doubt that they wont manage to turn a profit, especially with the latest reports about low game developer payments in Japan ;-)

iWarMachine (on 08 March 2010)

Wow! it seems to be that GT5 and H:R are competing for the 1st place!
God Of War still without a boost...damn, this is because the advertising is not here yet...i expect a good bump next week because the reviews are going up today.

BoneArk (on 08 March 2010)

I'm going to get the Monster Hunter 3 demo today and pre-order the game tomorrow.
I wonder when Metroid: Other M will make the chart.

Siko1989 (on 08 March 2010)

im glad to see red steel 2 made an increase, and im also glad Monster Hunter 3 is making progress

hunter_alien (on 08 March 2010)

Just Cause2, RoF and Metro 2033 will all bomb unfortunatly, and even if the legs are good, I doubt that they will do any meaningful numbers in the US :|

FFXIII debutes at ~ 650k on both platforms, not bad, but I doubt that its the JRPG ambassador many where hoping for :-(

On the good side, Pokemon and GoW are looking to have some amazing numbers first week, and MH3 is starting to show some real growth in preorders ;-)

aken909 (on 08 March 2010)

My comment on FF13 is. "good luck turning a profit" They spent 5 years on this game then they paid out who knows how much to people like Leona Lewis. I think after everyone is paid it'll be tough to make a noticeable profit. Oh well, at least they'll get 60$ from me.

leatherhat (on 08 March 2010)

@xen

Metro is made my the same guys who did STALKER, so metro should do very well on PC - much better than 360

DirtyP2002 (on 08 March 2010)

Can't wait to see 1 million + preorders for Halo Reach

Xen (on 08 March 2010)

Lol PC... the 360 is the only hope this game has.

huaxiong90 (on 08 March 2010)

Fallout: New Vegas charted? Interesting. Metro 2033 will do bad on Xbox 360, it seems. It'll be fine with PC sales, though.

WTF is up with God of War III?

Wandamaximoff (on 08 March 2010)

HALO REACH at number 9 ???? ALREADY!!!??

hahaha thats funny!

i will be getting FF13 tomorrow :-D

Majin-Tenshinhan (on 08 March 2010)

Wow, impressive increase for Monster Hunter Tri, and with so much time left. Maybe this will be a big hit outside of Japan after all.

--OkeyDokey-- (on 08 March 2010)

FFXIII is doing fine, considering all the anti-hype and disappointing reviews.

Xen (on 08 March 2010)

@Fab:

That doesn't stop the debut from being small, now does it?

leatherhat (on 08 March 2010)

This will be the best debut for a GoW game ever!

Ping_ii (on 08 March 2010)

*God of war 3 700k FW in NA!!!
*Good for ff13
*GT5 and reach both in top10 with no release date o.o
*ouch @ metro.

libellule (on 08 March 2010)

@--OkeyDokey--,

As I said on my previous post, i m also surprised ...

weird.

bugrimmar (on 08 March 2010)

how is FF13 doing poorly? if the prediction is correct, it'll do 650,000 week one. FF12, on the PS2 with a 100 million + console user base, only did 500k first week in America. try to see the perspective on this guys. FF isn't as big in America as it is in Japan. at this rate, 13 is set to outperform 12.

Fab_GS (on 08 March 2010)

@Xen

How is FFXIII doing weakly? The game will debut higher than FFXII.

Xen (on 08 March 2010)

@routsounmanman:

Thanks ;)

libellule (on 08 March 2010)

argh, Gow3 preorder not rising as quickly as I would have hoped

so you were right saying GoW3 will not have a "pre-release bump" in pre-order

also, amazing HR pre-orders

novasonic (on 08 March 2010)

Aw man, no Fragile Dreams..

--OkeyDokey-- (on 08 March 2010)

I don't understand how with the demo going up on PSN, the trailer, new footage for the first time since E3 and early reviews and marketing God of War isn't gaining any faster than it was months ago :/

It just seems like the hype has increased tenfold in the last few weeks and the preorders don't reflect that.

routsounmanman (on 08 March 2010)

@Xen
Good one :-)

And, I agree, FFXIII seems pretty low; maybe JRPGs in general have lost their fanbase?

Monster Hunter 3 is steadily rising, and GoW and Pokemon are going to be gigantic...

Muffin31190 (on 08 March 2010)

I want so see world wide pre-order charts

Xen (on 08 March 2010)

Oh my GOD (of War)

FF XIII is doing pretty weakly.

gustave154 (on 08 March 2010)

700k in americas for God Of War 3???
thats awesome i think 1 million first week WW is VERY likely.
