"Surprisingly low for Tekken (a large series in Japan) and Bayonetta (in all of its 40/40 from Famitsu glory- I told you it wouldn't affect sales)."

Bayonettas sales are excellent for hack 'n slash genre in Japan. Hack 'n slash just isn't very popular there. This is still one of the biggest hack 'n slash game in Japan this generation (Bayonetta is probably going to sell around as much copies as DMC4). For example GoW III won't probably even sell 50k lifetime in Japan.

And Tekken isn't large series in Japan anymore. Tekken 5 on PS2 sold only 320k lifetime.

I can't believe the unimaginative DMC ripoff, Bayonetta, sold more than Tekken. Does it have nudity? Although this could partially be due to the bad comments made on Tekken6, laggy matches, poor offline customization support, mediocre Scenario Compaign mode, sub-par graphics.

Woah
Super Robot Taisen Neo BOMBED HARD!!!
SRT aka Super Robot Wars is a huge series in Japan every new console entry usually sells 500,000+ copies. The handheld ones not as well the console main series is the bigger seller.
I think Banpresto thought well the Wii has a lot of consoles sold so it gets a SRT instead of PS3.
I bet Banpresto will try to port Neo to PS2 now and the next SRT will on PS3.

More proof that core games DON'T sell on Wii.

SRT for those that don't know is a tactical RPG or strategy RPG think Fire Emblem it goes into battle animation like that series.
They are the best SRPGs games unfortunately they don't come out of Japan due to all the anime mecha series involved licensing issues.

PS3 should be around 40k this week, since it was ALREADY at ~30k last week.

Good start for Bayonetta. A shame about Sin and Punishment but honestly I didn't really think it would sell all that well to begin with.

"Bayonetta did surprisingly well on the 360 lol"

Surprisingly? Most multiplat owners in Japan obviously went for the supeior 360 version. that's why it sold abotu half of what PS3 did...even with 3x smaller userbase. Tekken did 4x more on PS3.

Sin and Punishment 2!!!
U lucky bastards, considering an import but maybe I can wait.

Also glad to see Bayonetta getting a good response, absolutely love Platinum Games and everything they touch :)

Wow at Bayonetta on both consoles. Very good day 1 sales.

Wii titles? Oh dear. Presumably Wacky World of Sports wasn't even worth reporting on?

I'm surprised Bayonetta surpassed Tekken, I guess its popularity in JPN is lower than I thought (Tekken's).

Leo - Not sure on those numbers, as VG Japan numbers have been updated to reflect:

Wii - 26k
DS -52k
PS3-24k
PSP- 33K
360 - 4k

Your numbers seem out of alignment with how VGC averages MC and Famitsu together. Got links?

Why would you say that Tekken 6 sales are low? As said Tekken 5 did 200k first week and Tekken 6 does 100K in it's first DAY.

  • 0
hunter_alien (on 30 October 2009)

Tekken 6 seems a bit to low IMO.
Bayonetta does great... unfortunatly...
Sin & Punishment and CTW show poor first day numbers... maybe they will pick a bit up later on, but I doubt it...

Disappointing from Tekken? T 5 did 200k week one, so this release is some way off that

really good Bayonetta

outlawauron (on 30 October 2009)

Holy! Bayonetta is going to do much better than I thought it would.

I'd like to see the sellthrough, but both Wii releases seem very low.

@AE101:
That is because bayonetta did receive a 40/40 in famitsu (the 360 version) and it was development by platinum games, and the ps3 version by sega.

trestres (on 30 October 2009)

I don't know why some1 where predicting 100k+ first week for Super Robot Taisen. These kinds of games don't stand a chance on the Wii in Japan. Just look at how atrocious S&P2 numbers are. I think the secrecy is what kills these games. I'm speechless right now.

Great job for the 360 and PS3, Looks like Namco and Sega both have hits in their hands. SE on the other hand needs to stop porting and remaking games.

Awesome, it seems Platinum Games finally has a hit on their hands (hopefully, if it does well in the west).

Good week for the PS3.

Bayonetta did surprisingly well on the 360 lol
