New Super Mario Bros Wii saw an additional 75,000 preorders this week - the official announcement of a release date has really seen preorders surge in the last few weeks and the current rate suggests that a week one of over 750,000 is very possible. Brutal Legend saw an additional 40,000 preorders this week taking totals to nearly 200,000. Preorders for Borderlands has now passed 85,000 on Xbox360 and PS3 combined, including the PC version and digital downloads a week one of over 200,000 is looking likely. Modern Warfare 2 stays comfortably at the top of the list, over 2.2m preorders on Xbox360 and PS3 alone!

You can see last weeks chart here, and be sure to check back next week for the latest movers and shakers.

Where are the pre-orders for the next LIPS game!?

Borderlands on the PS3 isn't even on this list. Weird.

huaxiong90 (on 17 October 2009)

@finchi

It's COD4 then, if you want to remove Treyarch's games. So no, it's you who fails (this is like the cat and mouse game of no you, no you).

...and it's too early to tell how Uncharted 2 will sell. Killzone 2 is closing in on 2 million, also. Double fail on your part.

  • 0
AnthonyW86 (on 16 October 2009)

MW2 is going to be the fastest selling game of all time if i look at these number. I think it will also dethrone Halo 3 as the biigest opening day/week on 360.

finchi100 (on 16 October 2009)

@huaxiong90
Sorry dude but infinity ward doesent own Call of duty anymore.
FAIL
And UC2 will do excatly what KZ2 did, sold great and stop right away.
just watch and see.

huaxiong90 (on 16 October 2009)

@snukadaman1: Technically, Modern Warfare 2 is COD6. Uncharted 2 is the second of the new IP this gen, and it's got great legs. Fail.

sully1311 says:
XanderZane: Read the title?

Doh!! I went straight for the list and completely ignored the title. My bad. As for the list. Looks like Assassin's Creed with easily sell over 500K in America and maybe over 1 million worldwide it's first week. Left 4 Dead 2 and Forza 3 should sell over 200K at launch in the U.S. These titles usually have good legs, so the low pre-ordered is nothing to worry about. Wow, Dragon Age is still 6 weeks away? Expected more pre-orders for that game, but maybe everyone is getting the PC version. Brutal Legend got decent reviews. Worldwide sales should be over 150K next week. Moden Warfare 2 will be like Halo: ODST - over 2 million sold it's first week on the XBox 360 alone.

"Also, Uncharted 2 is not yet an established franchise like MW2 "

lol both are numbered 2...sounds like a excuse to me.

huaxiong90 (on 16 October 2009)

@newbie3: Pot calling the kettle black.

Also, Uncharted 2 is not yet an established franchise like MW2 or Halo. Your point is moot. Spin however you like, it means nothing. :)

Tyrannical (on 16 October 2009)

I almost never pre-order, but the $10 Amazon coupons on MW:2 and Dragon Age changed my mind.
No deals on Borderlands means no pre-order from me.

  • 0
newbie3 (on 15 October 2009)

LOL, as usual all the comments are PS3 fanboys.

There is a monster at the top of the charts, and it's isn't any PS3 game. But of course, everybody is talking about how great Uncharted 2 is doing instead. MW2 360 alone has over 5X UC2 preorders, and it's still over 1 month away. Thats what I call Uncharted-pwned.

XanderZane: Read the title?

  • 0
XanderZane (on 14 October 2009)

Are these worldwide pre-orders or just in the U.S.? That's my question. Call of Duty: MW2 is going to be huge. Similar sales to Halo: ODST. Already picked up UC2, and waiting for Forza 3, Dragon Age and CoD: MW2 now.

i guess no one on ps3 cares for borderlands? i think it seems like a cool game i might get it pending reviews.

random thoughts:

For ps3, i'm definitely looking forward to uncharted 2, MAG, GOW3.

For wii.... nsmb should be amazing.

others: assassin creed 2, MW2.

Hmm, one day i'll try pre-order but I prefer going to store and buying it when it's out.

now, if i can buy more time so I can try other games...would be nice.

@gurglesletch

Weak? 300K isn't "weak" by any means, especially considering the fact that the first game only sold 1.04 mil in that region LTD.

These are some Big Things happening for gaming...What a start to the holiday season for 360...2- two-million openers to kick off the season...HUGE. Assassin's Creed 2, L4D2, Forza 3 and Dragon Age are all proably going to have huge openings (compared to the last game) as well.

  • 0
Zucas (on 12 October 2009)

New Super Mario Bros Wii is definitely building up some steam. Super Mario Galaxy opened to a strong 600,000 in America on it's first week and was a very steady seller throughout the holiday season in America. Within 7 weeks it had almost sold 2.5 million in America alone at the end of 2007. New Super Mario Bros Wii is looking to have a similar if not stronger opener than the previous Mario game. Not to mention with more potential Wii buyers due to the pricedrop, also being the top holiday Wii title, and a much larger established base that are going to buy Mario on the spot... we could very well see quite a large launch in America. Tie that in with a decent European launch and a much larger Japanese launch compared to Galaxy and this will be quite the holiday title.

Modern Warfare keeps chugging along on both platforms while Assassin's Creed follows but at a much slower pace. It's clear from these early preorder charts how big the timeframe from November 10th to November 17th will be as the biggest releases on our preorder charts all come out. Will definitely have turned a much slower year software wise into something more comparable to 2008.

@ABC That's like saying every American worships Microsoft and American Football.(and its football, not soccer)

  • 0
A Bad Clown (on 12 October 2009)

Good thing I have stocks in Activision/Blizzard. When MW2 comes out I'll get enough money to buy it myself with all the sales. FIFA is sucking with the pre-orders right now. Europe will get the most sales on on that and Uncharted 2 because for some reason every European I know worships Sony and soccer.....is that normal?

  • 0
TyePhoid_PAL (on 12 October 2009)

Brilliant feature this! Hopefully the EU one will be decent too.

V happy for Uncharted 2. Modern Warfare is just mental and cant wait to see GT5 next week.

So by that time. They'll have maybe 400-800k pre-orders.

"i have a hard time believing that the eventual sales of MW2 on 360 will be sooo far ahead of the ps3 version."

Not so surprising. I have a decent PC and prefer FPS's (MW2) / mods on the PC.

That's why I went with the PS3 over 360. Most of the PS3 users that I know also do the same thing.

  • 0
HelloMotto (on 12 October 2009)

americans are obsessed with FPSs..................

if UC2 have an opening week of around 400-500k in america, then it should have an opening of week of around 500k-600k in europe, since it's more popular in Eu

  • 0
lilwingman (on 12 October 2009)

i have a hard time believing that the eventual sales of MW2 on 360 will be sooo far ahead of the ps3 version.

i'll be picking up ratchet first day, but i don't bother with pre-orders, so add one more to it's total :)

  • 0
yog-sothot (on 12 October 2009)

MW2 is such a juggernaut !

Good numbers for UC2 (not enough for such a game though !) and it's good to see some love for Brutal Legend too !

How are these preorders calculated ? Is it some extrapolation based on the Amazon numbers only ?

  • 0
Munkeh111 (on 12 October 2009)

Ratchet still below MAG....

Is Uncharted 2 big enough for a first day sales article? And Brutal Legend is doing okay, probably around 300k start in the US.

@kantor, the PS3 will win WW, it will win easily in Europe, and if they are about level in the US, then I think it should be a victory for PS3

  • 0
Kantor (on 12 October 2009)

Uncharted 2 should have a good debut.

MW2 is a beast.

MAG has a pretty impressive pre-order number, considering it doesn't launch for 16 weeks.

ACiT is just awful :-(

AC2 surprisingly close on PS3 and 360. Chance of roughly equal sales WW?

  • 0
Chairman-Mao (on 12 October 2009)

lol Forza 3 is only 147,000 3 weeks away in the 360's biggest market. I think this game might be small time.

Uncharted 2 is doing great, PS3 version of MW2 amazing and of course 360 version is massive.

  • 0
kitler53 (on 12 October 2009)

i haven't looked at these charts in a while. OMG, over 2M pre-orders for MW2 just in america with 5 more weeks until release!?! holy crap.

  • 0
RPG (on 12 October 2009)

I am not one to usually make bets but one I would make without a second thought would be MW2 outselling GTA IV. It's going to breeze past total GTA IV numbers.

I would say COD is the biggest franchise on HD consoles followed by GTA, Halo and I don't know after that. Gran Turismo will probably take number 4 but a full GT game needs to actually release on the HD console. :O

  • 0

  • 0
Infinity (on 12 October 2009)

Yeah, that means the PS3 Borderlands has less than 1/3 the preorders of the 360 version? I don't think the game looks that bad.

  • 0
LokeSTL (on 12 October 2009)

@MGS_4ever - Most retailers haven't started taking pre-orders for WKC. Only pre-order I know of is GameStop. Waiting for Amazon to open them up myself.

Underwhelming numbers for GoW Collection considering it's only 5 weeks away. Looking like a release around 80,000. Release may be a little lower than expected, but I'm sure the game will sell well through the holidays.

Hope to see numbers for how Demon's Souls week one here in NA. Did it break 100,000?

  • 0
RPG (on 12 October 2009)

YAY nice one ioi! :P

In terms of racing games Forza 3 will do very well and that is about it. No other racing game of note is coming out soon. Also pretty safe to say now that Modern Warfare is by FAR the largest HD franchise this generation.

  • 0
TheThunder (on 12 October 2009)

I don't know if my eyes are fooling me but I don't see Borderlands PS3 on the chart.

MAG is by far the most surprising game on the chart for me, if it can beat Resistance 2 numbers week 1 in NA then I'm impressed. I really though the game look bad and would be lucky to even sell 500k but who knows the Beta did good for it and maybe it has a shot at a million or more once the markting kicks in.

  • 0
Dark Odin (on 12 October 2009)

And just for the record... how much are we now talking about COD MW2 first week sales worldwide combined (360/PS3)?

I mean... 4 million in NA + Others. It could pass 6 million? more?

  • 0
MonstaMack (on 12 October 2009)

Forza 3 numbers are still kinda under expectations me thinks.

Modern Warfare 2 will surpass ODST's week one which is pretty damn good, and I think with the combined PS3 sales has a chance to surpass Halo 3's first week.

  • 0
Dark Odin (on 12 October 2009)

good to see God of War Collection in top 40! I really would like to see this game selling at least 500k, so other PS2 games could receive the same treatment in PS3.

and tekken 6 with 130k in PS3, 3 weeks before release. So maybe a 250k first week in NA seems achievable. Since the game always sold better in Eruope, let´s say 250k there too + 100k in Japan. That´s 600k first week just on PS3.
or I´m expecting too much?

  • 0
I like Bacon (on 12 October 2009)

Wow. NSMBW is awesome!

and Super Mario Galaxy 2!? Hell yeah! I hope that is a good sign that it will outsell the first game. I hope.

Hey ioi! Any numbers on Zelda: Spirit Tracks, as well as Pokemon HG and SS?

Alpha Protocol and Borderlands are still dissapointing IMO... tough it seems that AP was oushed to 2010 anyways :-P

  • 0
RPG (on 12 October 2009)

Good to see NSMB will be a monster (as if there was ever any doubt). Uncharted 2 numbers good as are MW2 however I do wonder how much of an effect there has been on MW2 pre-orders due to the PS3 version not yet being shown even once. I doubt much but it has made a couple of people I know become worried about the PS3 version.

I don't have a clue what is going on with GT5, not even 22k pre-orders while SMG 2 does which is probably a fall 2010 title!

Valves 25 million doller advertisement plan isnt in affect yet. left 4 dead 2 should really hit some numbers comeing up this month. Im surprised UC2 is selling 55k preorders a week. But its opening up. Assissans Creed should sell better (like monster) in about 3 weeks.

  • 0
CaptDS9E (on 12 October 2009)

Forza will probably be over 400,000 WW. At this pace it will be at 200,000 preorders in the US by launch. Add in non preorders, and if you just add how much Forza 2 sold launch week in Others it would be over. I expect Forza 3 to sell much more in Others this time.

  • 0
starcraft (on 12 October 2009)

I reckon Forza 3 can secure 400k worldwide week one, which would be a nice little bump up from it's last iteration.
