Here we see data representing the global sales through to consumers and change in sales performance of the four home consoles and four handhelds over comparable periods for 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.  Also shown is the market share for each of the consoles over the same periods.

Nintendo

  • Nintendo Switch - Up Year-on-Year 402,324 (21.4%)
  • Nintendo 3DS – Down Year-on-Year 264,669 (-90.0%)

Sony

  • PlayStation 4 – Down Year-on-Year 650,281 (-34.5%)

Jesus, PS4 and XboxOne sales are droping like a rock (3DS too, but that doesn't count anymore). Maybe "announcing" the next consoles so soon has hurt them more than they thought, but they also need to lower the price as soon as possible.

Of course but I think it might be the best year for any gen 8 console as well.
