Worldwide Hardware Estimates for the Week Ending August 31 - Sales

The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console worldwide with 257,915 consoles sold for the week ending August 31, according to VGChartz estimates.

The PlayStation 4 was the second best-selling console with sales of 181,363 consoles sold, followed by the Xbox One with 44,185 units, the 3DS with 13,410 units, and the PlayStation Vita with just 48 units.

....Did Astral Chain do that?

I think it's mostly due to the new base model, since that one didn't show up yet in last weeks estimates. And I still think it's heavily undertracked due to this. I mean, the new base model was already available 1-2 weeks beforehand outside of Japan but the tracker only reacted to the Japanese numbers, and despite it being available outside of Japan longer the boost in Japan is by far the biggest.

Hasn't the new model been available since the first week of August? Some of that might be Astral Chain ... definitely not all of it though.

It has been available at least since the week before Astral Chain - but there was no change in the charts. In fact, Europe and North America are widely unaffected for weeks now, and it's almost only Japan that makes a difference in sales due to their 60k bump from the new base model that week

Switch sold more in each major region than Xbox One did globally.
