why is not fair to take 130weeks from start, insted of 130weeks of each part of the world, it is not nintendos fualt that sony didnt put enouge money in to making ps2 to make a world wide luanch like wii. For me that looks like sony didnt have enouge faith in their ps2 at start, the same way nintendo had in wii.

As someone else pointed out the comparison with the PS2 isn't fair because it discounts the fact that the PS2 was released earlier in Japan so there aren't 120 weeks of NA or Others data. If you want this site to be respectable, try to post factual information on the front news page......

@itmchris How is it inaccurate? Yeah, the PS2 sold a lot more than 31 million and the 360 has sold more than 18 mill. This is how much it's sold in 130 weeks, which is how long the Wii's been out. That's a completely fair comparison.

I think PeteyPeeps is in the minority. The Wii, when compared to the first two and a half years of every other console from Nintendo; comes out way on top. Gamecube had nothing worth playing on it for years, N64 had like 30-40 games TOTAL after two and a half years, SNES didn't have anything until Donkey Kong (which was like three years). The NES is really the only one, in its time, that competes.

If it's the worst, and all are saying that... ...why costumers continue to buy it? It's not like people like you is saying, think to it.

it's a good idea to point out that this chart only represents part of the selling cycle for certain systems and is an inaccurate comparison. Some systems were out earlier and some later, you've selected to only include data that accurately represents the wii. The 360 has been out for more then 130weeks and has sold Worldwide: 27.93 million (as of January 14, 2009).

The PS2 launching earlier in Japan thing needs to be noted that it still sold as much as Sony could produce - so after 130 weeks of production, the numbers above still hold.

The Wii may not ever catch the PS2 in Japan, but it will exceed it everywhere else.

Well, in fact it wasn't that low. Going from launch on each region, at the same point on lifetime we get - Japan: Wii - 8.07 PS2 - 9.96 America: Wii - 23.30 PS2 - 19.76 Others: Wii - 18.82 PS2 - 15.30 Wii total - 50.19m PS2 total - 45.02m

It was only a matter of time before it happen. Now it's on the road to 50%.

You've got to remember that the PS2 launched way earlier in Japan than NA/EU. Still, pretty impressive, even though 2009 seems a bit slow so far.

Wow, the Wii is tracking at over one and a half times faster than the PS2? I didn't realize that. If that is the case, it's pretty likely it will strip the crown of best selling console LTD from the PS2.

So all those who still think PS3 will end up #1 in total sales this generation, take a good long look at that graph ... wait a minute, 360 behind in sales of the PS3? Am I reading that right? Something is off ... me or the chart? Oh, duh. This is 130 weeks for each system. Okay, blond moment over.

@ Omega One of the shortest retail generations, which it was cut short due to the PSP coming out and Nintendo had to counter. But this handheld generation will last much longer.

@Jumpin It has slowed but remember at the same time last year we had Brawl, Kart AND Wii Fit out and it drove console sales and Nintendo is shipping out faster then they did last year at the same time. When a steady supply of big games such as those starts coming again it will probably start becoming closer to shipping numbers.

I would say that's not good news if the Wii sales are now two months behind shipments. It wasn't very long ago that Wii shipments was also an accurate representation of current sales.
