A Look Ahead: Upcoming Wii titles of 2009 - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 14 January 2009 / 59,687 Views

To many, 2008 seemed like a disappointment for the Wii software-wise during the second half of the year. It was regarded as the Wii's worst year by many, but 2009 changes everything. There are so many quality third party titles coming, and we have yet to hear what Nintendo has in store for the year! Note that this is not a complete list and will miss some titles. Regardless, this shows off the main highlights of the year, and any gamer should be interested in any of these titles. Happy Wii gaming this year!

MadWorld

From the creators of Viewtiful Joe and Okami comes a new game for the Wii! In this game you play as Jack and you must tear down your foes in the game's over-the-top, stylish, and violent black and white setting. Impale enemies on spikes, rip someone's heart out, and slice them up with your chainsaw. For the people who like violent, over-the-top games like No More Heroes, this may seem like what you were looking for.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade

From Vanillaware, the creators of beautiful 2D games like Odin Sphere on the PS2, comes Muramasa: The Demon Blade. While it's not a sequel to Odin Sphere, it seems like a spiritual successor to it. The game focuses on Japanese mythology rather than Norse mythology like Odin Sphere. You choose to play as either the male Kisuke or the female Mohime. For fans of Odin Sphere, action RPGs, or just 2D games in general, this seems like an amazing new game coming to the Wii.

Sin and Punishment 2

Sin and Punishment 2 first screenshots

Not much is known about this game besides the fact it'll remain an arcade-esque shooter in the same vein as the original. For fans of Treasure, or people hoping for a sequel to the original Sin and Punishment on the N64, your wishes have been granted.

Punch Out!!

This game is a cell-shaded remake of the first Punch Out!! on the NES. Glass Joe, Von Kaiser, and King Hippo are all shown as opponents of the Minor Circuit. Motion controls have been confirmed to be used in this game. For fans of the original, or boxing fans looking for a fun new game, this looks like a perfect title for you.

Monster Hunter 3 (tri-)

No one expected the Wii to steal the PS3 exclusive that was Monster Hunter 3. This game looks like one of the biggest scale - if not THE biggest scale - games announced for the Wii. The game will be similar to the other Monster Hunter games on the PS2 and PSP and will have much better graphics, a good online system, more monster interaction, a cooler control scheme (for those who don't want to use the Wii remote, classic controller support has been announced), and a new underwater aspect where you can go underwater for some fishing (read: epic underwater hunting!). The game will also support split screen so for those who have friends, a significant other, or family who are into gaming. This game should also be of interest to those wanting large scale games for the Wii, and of course Japanese gamers who are in love with the series, or just like Japanese games in general. This game is likely to come out in Japan but the NA release is still iffy for 2009. Nonetheless it's a great addition to the Wii's 2009 line up.

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile

The Klonoa series seems to have a big following. The series must be THAT good. This game is a remake to Klonoa: Door to Phantomile for the PS1. It's also a platforming/RPG hybrid. Fans of the series should look into this game. Not to mention people who want to see what all the hype is about (like me).

Trace Memory R: Gateway of Memory

This game is a sequel to the original Trace Memory for the DS. Although this game allows to you adventure, unlike the DS game. For fans of the game on the DS, or those who are interested in mystery games, this should be a title to look forward to.

Arc Rise Fantasia

From imageepoch, the creators of Luminous Arc and, comes an RPG for the Wii. The game's artist is Kenichi Yoshida. He was the artist of the anime Eureka Seven. Besides him, there's a lot of promising staff for this awesome looking RPG. The game's scenario is from the same person who wrote Tales of the Abyss' scenario, the director also directed Tales of Symphonia, and the composer is Yasunori Matsuda, who made memorable soundtracks for games like Chrono Trigger and Xenosaga. For the actual game itself, the game is set in the world of Meridian. Creatures called Contaminant Dragons cause trouble and when the empire receives word that the dragons have set their eyes on the capital Diamant, it immediately sets out an army including characters Bright and Alse. Bright is injured but is healed by a girl called Ryphia. The game's main story is said to be 40 hours with even more hours clocking in for doing side quests and the like. It'll also be turn based. For RPGs fans such as myself, you MUST set your eyes on this game.

Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon

http://vgchartz.com/games/pics/313243aaa.jpg

From tri-Crescendo - the makers of the Baten Kaitos games for the GameCube and Eternal Sonata for the Xbox 360 and PS3 - and the Venus & Braves team, comes a brand new action RPG/adventure game for the Wii. Fragile is set in a post-apocalyptic world that has lost its light and is covered by dense fog. Almost all of the world's population has vanished, and the cities have been left abandoned. Not only is the concept cool, but the art is beautiful and amazing. The main character is a boy (yes, he is in fact a guy, not a girl like many seem to think!  Laughing ) named Seto. In the game you use a flashlight and items like sticks, hatchets, bows and arrows, you name it, to fight off enemies. For RPG/adventure enthusiasts this game should be perfect for you.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time

Another entry in the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series. The game allows Wii and DS players to play at the same time. In the Wii version we know that Miis can be used in the game in the form of masks. Characters we know of are Charlotta, who seems to be the protagonist of the game. She's a young girl who ventures out of her village during her 16th Birthday, finding a massive tower, and the antagonist of the game, called Larkicus. Fans of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, or people looking for an interactive Wii-DS game should look into this game.

Rune Factory Frontier

This game is another entry in the Rune Factory series. It's a simulation/action RPG, and is similar to Harvest Moon, but you can go to dungeons and fight enemies instead of farming and whatnot. The game takes place on the island of Tranrupia and there is an island in the game that takes the form of a whale in this game. The world is set to be very large, which is awesome. There are many returning characters from the game, and the most notable one is Raguna from Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon on the DS. Fans of the series, or people just looking for a large world RPG should look into this title.

Little King's Story

Little King's Story is a simulation RPG that seems very promising. Besides the awesome staff of people who worked on Harvest Moon, Dragon Quest VIII, Final Fantasy XII, and the composer being Yoko Shimomura, famous for her music in the Kingdom Hearts series, the concept sounds pretty cool and quirky too. The main character of the game is named Corobo Bredand, who finds a crown which makes people follow his orders. As King of the Village, his goal is to grow the village and make his subjects happy. Besides your kingdom, there are 7 other kingdoms, each with their own king.

Endless Ocean 2: Beautiful Ocean

This game is the sequel to Endless Ocean also on the Wii. Not much is known, but anyone familiar with Endless Ocean and has enjoyed it should look into it.

Sonic and the Black Knight

Another entry in the Sonic series, and releasing exclusively for the Wii. This game follows up from Sonic and the Secret Rings. Set in the world of King Arthur, a sorceress named Merlina summons Sonic to help free the mystical realm of King Arthur, who has been corrupted and is now ruling the realm as the tyrannical Black Knight. Sonic's speed is not enough to break the Black Knight's reign, so he must take up a sword to break Arthur's curse and save the kingdom. The game features sword combat with the Wii Remote and will have free movement like Sonic Unleashed.

Dynamic Slash

Dynamic Slash is an action game developed by Sandlot, makers of Earth Defense Force on the Xbox 360. The game is set in Norse Mythology and the heroine will fight huge monsters. Not much else is known.

Kizuna

Another promising RPG, which is being developed by Jaleco. The game features huge monsters where Lian (the main character) has to find their weak point to defeat them. The game is commonly compared to Shadow of the Colossus. It'll also feature a "pencil effect" art style. The game should be pretty lengthy too - it has 100 quests, not to mention the main storyline and everything else they'll put in this game. Again, RPG or Shadow of the Colossus fans should have this game on their radar.

Tenchu: Shadow Assassins

This game is Tenchu 4 in Japan but they changed the name for the NA release. Players will use the Wii remote to fight, jump, dash and kill like a ninja. This game will continue the saga of Rikimaru and Ayame, elite ninjas who must use their lethal skills to keep the peace in feudal Japan. There are 10 missions and 50 side quests in this game, so it's pretty lengthy. Fans of Tenchu should look out for this.

Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse

Although this game hasn't been announced in NA yet and has only released in Japan, it's more than likely to come out in NA in 2009. Whether by Tecmo or Nintendo - time will tell. The game is a joint effort between Tecmo, Grasshopper and Nintendo. The player uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to aim the camera and flashlight. There are hostile and non-hostile ghosts. To take out hostile ghosts you must use the 'Camera Obscura' in the game to take pictures of the enemy, which damages them. For fans of horror games, this is a great Wii title to look forward to.

Cursed Mountain

Cursed Mountain is an upcoming survival horror title. Set in the Himalayas, the player controls a mountaineer who is searching for his lost brother. The souls of the people who died in the region are stuck in limbo on the mountain and he must might them off. Combat will utilize Wii motion controls. The entire game world is said to be visible from every level. Survival horror fans should check this out.

The House of the Dead: Overkill

http://www.widgamer.com/screens/wii/16989/large/screenshots/80879_the-house-of-the-dead--overkill.jpg

This game is a first-person rail shooter developed by Headstrong Games and published by Sega. This game is the prequel to the first House of the Dead game. Special Agent G and Detective Washington team up to investigate stories of mysterious disappearances in Louisiana. Little do they know about the blood-soaked mutant depravity that awaits them in the streets and swamps of Bayou City. First-person rail shooting fans or horror fans should look forward to this.

Overlord: Dark Legend

Overlord: Dark Legend is a Wii exclusive action adventure prequel to the first Overlord for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Climax Studios and Codemasters seem to be doing a very good job pushing the Wii's graphical power with this game. Like the original Overlord, you play as a young, new overlord as he protects his castle and lands. According to Codemasters, the Wii remote will allow new, unique control mechanisms such as "pluck[ing] a minion from the horde, hold[ing] him by the neck and shak[ing] him around". Fans of the original Overlord should look into this.

The Conduit

Ah, here is the big, hyped exclusive FPS for the Wii that will decide the fate of every "core" Wii game that will ever be released on the Wii...sort of. Well...actually not really. Anyway, the game is being developed by High Voltage Software and received multiple awards at E3 2008 for best graphics on the Wii, best shooter for the Wii, and best overall Wii game. The multiplayer aspect is very promising: the game will feature at least three competitive multiplayer modes for online play, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag modes. There will be voice chat using Wii Speak, and LAN play is being worked on. The multiplayer will support up to 16 players simultaneously. There will also be a campaign mode featuring a story.

Deadly Creatures

Deadly Creatures is an upcoming action thriller for the Wii where you play as a scorpion and a tarantula and you will fight other insects and arachnids. The concept makes it out to be a 3D brawler, but the lead designer said there will be more to the game than that. The game will also feature a dark story. Looks like a promising game, and quite different from what THQ usually offers.

Let's Tap

Let's Tap consists of a number of minigames that require the player to tap a flat surface with their hands to play. The game requires the player to set the Wii face-side down on a flat, stable surface, with the accelerometer picking up their vibrations as they tap the surface to move an on screen character in a race, inflate a balloon, create ripples in a pool of water, or paint swirls on a canvas. Definitely different from your average game, that's for sure, but it seems fun!

Bleach: Versus Crusade

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3132/2903773701_559d4a0edc.jpg?v=0

Unlike many other Bleach installments, this game is being developed by Treasure. Scans depict a roster of characters in line with the manga storyline, featuring Neliel, Nnoitra, Ichigo with his hollow mask and Grimmjow's released form. It is a one-on-one fighter, but players pick a partner character for various team-up attacks and other maneuvers, as well as being able to switch between them. It will support Wi-Fi play and can be played with the Classic controller or Gamecube controller in place of the Wii-Remote and Nunchuk.

Wii Sports Resort

Nooo!!! Another casual Wii game! But wait...what did you say? This game comes bundled with MotionPlus, an accessory which makes Wii controls 1:1, which is something we've been wanting for a long time (also what we believed the Wii was capable of at launch) and will enhance games? Woah! Anyway, it's the sequel to Wii Sports and will no doubt sell TONS. Games announced so far are: Frisbee (Disc Dog), Jet Skiing (Power Cruising) and Kendo (Sword Play). 10 Games will be included in the final product.

Tales of Ten

We got little info, and an amazing, yet short trailer, and this is my most anticipated game of 2009 by far! It's a new main entry Tales game for the Wii a la Symphonia, Abyss, or Vesperia. This game's inspiration came from Medieval Europe. It has been confirmed for a Japan only release in 2009 (this should come over though, so no worries!). Tales of Ten is a code name for now, and will know the official name of the title sooner or later.

So a couple of these didn't make it out in 2009, but what's missing from this list that I spot in my pile are things like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, A Boy and his Blob, and Dead Space Extraction;
games that are not to be scoffed at.

Why do I still think we still are getting crap three years into the Wii life. I me I MadWorld, Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse,Deadly Creatures,The Conduit are the only hardcore games. Everything else it just kiddish type [url=http://www.online-flash-game.com/]flash games[/url]. Why can't developers make more after the Wii has been out for over three years now?

@dahuman Lol; are you trying to say that I should dash my memories of enjoying Star Fox because you wanted to place words on my screen?

@Just2fresh Time is funny, it goes on regardless of you - in that breath, video gaming is in the hands of a higher power =P What you like is not where the buck stops.

Soriku so needs to add Valhalla Knights; I wonder if he even checked it out =(.

a3hmax (on 20 January 2009)

Just2fresh: the Graphics aren´t "hardcore games" required, maybe you started as gamer on this generation. Oblivion it´s a FP-RPG, nothing too diferent from FPS. Fallout 3 have s Shooter gameplay. ¿racing, adventure, sports? you know nothing, kid.

whacker41 (on 20 January 2009)

It's shaping up to be a great year for the wii. Bleach is a definite buy for me, as is tales of 10 (If it comes out in Europe).

  • 0
dahuman (on 19 January 2009)

@just2fresh yeah then HD systems are definately better for you. I'm the type that plays everything hehe and spent a good amount of time on a lot of FPS so I don't exactly see much difference in all these new ones, and I was quiet disappointed when I saw RE5 because it has moved very far away from what it was and it's now a co-op shooter type game, but a lot of people follow the story of RE so it's a good fan release for sure. I personally like all the RPG, I just don't like crappy devs like a lot of the 3rd party Wii ones, and EA's stupid attitude towards Wii when they are not even trying, at all, to invest in it, and they could have made more money if they tried instead of coming up with stupid press releases like they are some hot stuff. If, if Halo RTS is good, great, maybe console people will get into RTS then, being a PC gamer and having played some of the console RTS though, I'd have to say the controls will be the issue as usual, I know I'd stay the hell away from it for sure.

@tolu619: I'm pretty sure what the Fans of the Starfox series want is something like Starfox 64, because the Cube one was terribad, I had more fun on the SNES version. If the secret Factor5 project is Starfox, I'd literally piss my pants in excitement, we'll see in 2 weeks what Factor5 is actually working on, and yes, they are still alive, on the Nintendo side of things anyways.

tolu619 (on 19 January 2009)

Don't forget that the other lists are also incomplete.I really don't care if the wii doesn't have all those games just2fresh mentioned except RE5.FPSes and an RTS which might sell based on the name HALO.....yah,whatever.Pokemon snap? Was dat game actually fun?Did it use an add-on?Was starfox actually dat good either? My lil bro beat starfox adventure on dinosaur planet or whatever they called the one he had a magic staff and I saw lots of the gameplay.
It was good but was there some starfox in the past that was THAT good for peeps 2 be hoping for a new 1?
Don't worry about wii hardcore games everyone. This year,we'll start to see some and it will only get better each year.Best part is the wii 2 will definitely be HD.We have that 2 look forward 2.I wonder what the HD consoles upgrades will be besides their own versions of the wiimotes. You guys have seen sony's patent for dat motion sensor pad dat looks like 2 dildos, right?

@Dahuman

You know your very right also...I love First Person shooters maybe Im just viloent lmao :P but that doesnt mean thats all I play I just named some of the games comming out...Im currently very VERY busy in Oblivion which is an RPG and is GREAT...Im looking forward to getting Fallout 3 also...Im not into Japanese RPG's dont like that turn bases fighting system...also your absolutely right about FPS they have really been letting me down lately...their fun only last until you beat them unless they have a great Multiplayer online that is :) like COD 4 and Resistance 2 :) Im looking more into getting quality now...I want a game that takes me long to beat as Oblivion and Fallout 3 not just 12hrs of gameplay...I must say Im picking up Killzone 2 and Fear 2 and Resident Evil 5

Wow great list soriku, you actually have most of my anticipated games on here! I am really looking forward to 'Ougon no Kizuna' or 'Golden Bonds' but I am afraid I will have to import it.... Please check out the screens and the website to see the colossi designs. If anyone liked Shadow of the colossi (who didn't?) then this is right up your alley.

Screen clearing moves... with a ending boss fight against a different colossi for each level, each with their own weakness

Throw in the awesome pencil shading graphics and how can you not at least be interested?

Please everyone write XSEED, namco, and any other publishers to get this game to US and EU. I WILL import this if I have to but we can show publishers there is enough interest to release in other regions.

Let the emails commence!

Its name is 'Ougon no Kizuna' which roughly translates to 'Golden Bonds'

And of coarse as everyone has stated, this isn't even including any nintendo or western devs :)

dahuman (on 18 January 2009)

@Just2Fresh: your list was almost all FPS, RE5 is pretty much a shooter now too, and tbh I was more impressed by Lost Planet which was also made by Capcom. Halo RTS.... I literally laughed when MS announced that thing. I can also tell you that there has not been any revolutionary shooter for years, L4D is very good on PC, even that's the only one I can think of that did something exciting when it came about FPS on PC. It seems your idea of hardcore and mature is more realism and good gfx FPS which is a little shallow, if you look at the Wii list, most of the Dev are Japanese companies, which are more about style than realism. most FPS are very generic looking these days, it's rather sad, seems only Valve is able to create something different sigh. You only play Mario and Zelda on the Wii? You got issues =P there are a lot of good hardcore games on Wii, people just go, wooo, look, HD is puurrrrty.... and they forget what the real important thing is when it comes to gaming. I've always been a PC gamer, I'm used to good graphics and good game play on a lot of the genres when it comes to Western type games, and most of the new ones have zero innovation, no story, and not even fun anymore. At least Wii solved that problem for me because it has good 1st and 3rd party support from Japan. It's sad that the only HD console game I want to play is Castle Crushers, which doesn't even need to be HD, oh that and FF13 which is not until 2010, which I'll just end up watching on JTV anyways.

Just busting your chops, you can feel however you want - I'm not one to give advice to anyone too busy with myself.

@Dib8rman

I dont hate on anyones taste in games...different people have diffeent taste I was just giving my opinion....since Im more of a Hardcore gamer the games really dont appeal to my taste..BUT the Wiis line up this year is really good better than any year in my opinion besides 2006...and for people saying is this the Wiis year? UM every year has Basically been the Wiis Hardware wise maybe software wise they would lead if they bring out more games as in this list...Idk I Love my Ps3 and Xbox 360 for hardcore games but they might have a new neightbor this year The Wii :) I wanna get back to playing Mario and Zelda just dont want to pay 250 for a machine to play 2 games :(

Woahs! Nice list for sure. My wii will be busy this year. And that's not even including the tons of potentially great Nintendo games that are on the way too. Hooray for Wii 3rd party support!

Whats really awesome is that not everything is even announced yet. This really could be Nintendo's best year with 3rd parties on a home console in a long time.

dib8rman (on 18 January 2009)

@Soriky, I'm sad you missed Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga, but at least you remembered Overlord, also Spore is due this year.

Here's hoping we get a new Star Fox in 2009, I'm rooting for an Adventures type. Also wiki has the release date on VK:ES at 2009 December for Japan, but Xseed is already talking about localization being possible for the US. I'm not sure if you want to count Tsunoku Vs Capcom also as well as Dynamic Slash.

Rygar also V_V I guess I'm the only one thinking of tha game...

@Just2Fresh

I won't go as far as to say the "Wii's line up is better than anything else" but I will say that I'm satisfied, seems like you have a problem with other peoples satisfaction though. IMO ;)

It would be cool if Wii got a new Poke'mon' Snap. that would be a great way to insert a new add-on.

Idk Why people are saying that the Wiis lineup for 2009 is WAYYYYY Better than the 360's or Ps3's for 2009 they MUST BE FROM THE AGES OF 6-13 if they believe this list kills the others...NOW I must say that the Wiis 2009 year is looking WAY better than 2008 thats for sure but dont get ahead of yaselfs and say its better than Ps3's or 360's your lying to yourself....theres NO RE5,Killzone 2,Halo Wars And the other Halo title, Call of Duty Modern warfare 2, FEAR 2 etc...I can keep going on forever and Im NOT A FANBOY IM WAY TOO OLD FOR THAT JUST STATIN FACTS I LOVE THE WIIS line up for this year though alot of KIDS will be happy with those kiddie games...I love Nintendo but they should start making games towards Hardcore Gamers also as myself as I started my gaming life WITH A NINTENDO CONTROLLER AND SYSTEM....love my MARIOS and ZELDAS....I hope Nintendos Next Gen will have Great Graphics and also cater to Hardcore Gamers

What? I must not be looking right, but what variety? Every console has variety and it's ignorant to deny PS3 and 360 the games they have.

  • 0
bigjon (on 17 January 2009)

great job soruki, very readible, I like it.

also, the Wii has amazing variety compared the what the HD consoles are offering. It should be interest, I dont thing the sales will be specacular for most of those, but at worst profitable.

Why do I still think we still are getting crap three years into the Wii life. I me I MadWorld, Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse,Deadly Creatures,The Conduit are the only hardcore games. Everything else it just kiddish type games. Why can't developers make more after the Wii has been out for over 3 years now?

For everyone that's disappointed with no Western games, don't worry they are coming as well. Soriku just doesn't like them making the list skewed.

I hope people realize that the so called "3rd party support" which is coming in 2009 actually comes from games which have been in development since 2008-2007 or even earlier. you know from that time when people were arguing whether or not the initial success of the Wii would be enough to lure in the 3rd party devs....

also: kudos to the authors of all of these "Upcoming..." articles who maintain their integrity and actually post articles which are (as they should be) their own view of the present situation. If all of these articles would list every single game which is coming or if each article would list only all of the exclusives, sure they would be consistent, but they would also be very boring to read. An editorial is just that, it is a short and concise opinion based article that is meant to spark some discussion.

Saying that an article is "biased" and therefore flawed in someway is quite stupid as that is exactly what an opinion based article is supposed to be. The only kind of articles which should not be biased are the once that report on actual events. And even then, it's not really the reporters responsibility to be unbiased, freedom of speech dictates that he in fact can write whatever he wants, it's up to you as a reader to interpret what you read and to put it into context.

is any1 sure of metroid prime wiimake?WHY DID I JUST FIND OUT ABOUT THIS after struggling to play metroid prime on a nearly dead gamecube for the past two months? The cube hangs or doesn't read the disc at times so i'm only 35% through.Something tells me 2010 will have a better list of games than 2009 and I hope no mario or zelda or fire emblem, etc comes out this year because I want them to polish those games to perfection with the normal amount of years it takes to do so.

LINDYYSGVXC: you got all right, Third party finally support WII, but remembe, Sin and Punishment 2 and Punchout are form Nintendo, but they are not programing these games, Punchout it´s being developed by Level 5, and Sin and punishment 2 by Treasure.

SORUKI, IT´S OK, MAN!!! it´s joust everyone wants mae their opinions be listened, and obviusly you are hearing us.

@Soriko

Sorry, but I don't get it... come over... where? USA? I'm in Europe, and if you consider Mushroom Men to be a 2008 title, I believe all the others I mentioned are as well. After all, there is an huge European userbase here.

But I do understand your point... ;)

iindyysgvxc (on 15 January 2009)

Most of those games are third-party games. Where's Mario Golf Wii? Mario Tennis Wii? Mario Party 9? Star Fox Wii? F-Zero Wii? Wave Race Wii? 1080 Wii? Mario Snowboarding? Mario Formula 1? Mario Skateboarding? Mario Cricket? Mario Badminton? Mario Softball? Mario Bowling? Mario Wrestling? Mario Ice Hockey? Mario Water Polo? Mario Volleyball? Mario Lacrosse? Mario Rounders? Mario Squash? Mario Table Tennis? A Waluigi game? A Bowser game? A Toad game? A Daisy game?

GFV (on 15 January 2009)

Well, Im not a Wii hater, I have a Wii, but I just dont think this list is so good as most people are saying. Where are a true Zelda game form the Wii????? TP is great, but it's a Game Cube. Dead Rising , Klonoa, Resident Evil 4, Okami, a lot of great games for Wii are remakes, anda I want really new games, like No More Heroes.

A lot of games in this list are only promises. It can be goood, or very bad.

  • 0
Simulacrum (on 15 January 2009)

6 games I'm interested.
But if no Mario/Zelda game this year,it will be worser year than 2008.

  • 0
Nebnosneh (on 15 January 2009)

Just like the DS, the Wii's third year is going to rock!

  • 0
Dazkarieh (on 15 January 2009)

Punch-Out is not a remake. But well... let them say whatever they want.

I believe TMNT, Broken Sword, Valhalla Knights and The Calling should be there.

I'm happy Dead Rising isn't. In that case we should also refer PetZ 43 and ImagineZ: Priest as well...

  • 0
Naum (on 15 January 2009)

BTW I don't think Punch-Out is a remake, more like a new game with alot of old faces probably from both the NES and SNES versions.

  • 0
Naum (on 15 January 2009)

Great I have the money to buy all the games but I don't have time to play them all....

Don't know wich is worse, have time but no money or money but no time...

I am looking forward to some other titles that are not on this list. But the list is great. 2009 will be a very big year for the wii.

  • 0
Galaki (on 15 January 2009)

2008 could have stayed longer. I still have a stack of sealed games, damn it.

Sin and Punishment 2 is actually what interested me most. Looks to be totally new gameplay.

Monster Hunter Tri-, Dead Rising Wii, Wii Sports Resort (for the wii motion plus) and others are on my top list.

Punch Out is not a remake from what Nintendo is saying.
This list is pretty good but if a new Starfox or F-zero is announced this year it will be ridiculous.
Madworld,Conduit,Punchout are sure fire buys.

  • 0
arsenal009 (on 15 January 2009)

arsenal009 (on 15 January 2009)

There is a typo for Let's Tap.
You wrote The game requires the player to set the Wii face-side down...
It should be Wii-remote, not Wii

Also Klonoa is a platformer w puzzle elements, not RPG elements. Either way, it's a great game & everyone should try this game, even ppl who only play RPGs like Soriku :p

Other than that, great article!

Batman...WTF? (on 14 January 2009)

Conduit and Madworld are on my list. And some secret Nintendo game that Miyamoto will hint at for about 6 months...

  • 0
Kenryoku_Maxis (on 14 January 2009)

Almost all of them look interesting if not Major wants. However, like with all the third party games that have come out on a Nintendo console between the N64 and now, we have to ask if they will end up being 3-4 year developments 'in production' that just end up being mild disappointments or the AAA titles they're hyped up to be.

In other words, we're looking for more titles like Resident Evil 4, Harvest Moon 64 and Mischief Makers. Let's shoot for Wii being the revival of Nintendo having a console where the Third Parties can match EAD in top quality games.

  • 0
Tailgunner (on 14 January 2009)

Two I'd buy versus none last year. Good improvement.

  • 0
XanderZane (on 14 January 2009)

There's probably about 5-6 of those games on that list that I'd want. Sin & Punishment 2, Punch Out, Wii Sports Resorts, The Conduit, Monster Hunter 3 and a couple others are going to be worth a lot.

  • 0

  • 0

American devs still need to jump on board.

  • 0
