The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

 

PS4 vs. PS3 and Xbox 360 Global:

Gap change in latest month: 219,266 – PS3 and X360

Gap change over last 12 months: 3,600,590 – PS3 and X360

Total Lead: 10,729,726 – PS3 and X360

PlayStation 4 Sales: 75,282,342

Total Combined PS3 and Xbox 360 Sales: 86,012,068

The gap grew in favor of the combined sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 when compared to the sales of the PS4 during the same timeframe by 219,266 units in the last month. The PS3 and Xbox 360 increase its lead over the PS4 by 3.60 million units in the last 12 months. The PlayStation 4 is behind by 10.73 million units.

The PlayStation 4 in its first 51 months sold 75.28 million units, while the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have sold a combined 86.01 million units.

PS3 beat 360 last gen and PS3 is maxing out around 90Mill but PS4 will shatter 100Mill so...

Proof that PS4 is going to do excellent numbers in the long run. 130 million seems almost guaranteed.

PS5 will launch in 2020 for sure. Sony is already deep in development on it and that would match PS3 lifecycle.

PS4 will sell ~110 million .

The PS4 will have long sales legs and it will sell over 120+ million. I would not be surprised the PS4 reaches 150 million console sales. The PS4 is picking up most of the HD twin sales in the 8th gen. PS4 has a 40 million lead of the Xbox One and that gap will continue to grow and grow over time. Go the PS4!
