Breath of tge Wild and Horizon Zero Dawn will hopefully continue to have decent legs. It feels great to buy such a wonderful game.

It's pretty awesome that both games virtually did such amazing numbers. Especially horizon is shocking as I don't think anyone would believe it would be anywhere near the 2 million mark for a new IP. With Zelda, well, it's a given it was going to sell well.
Horizon is a masterpiece but I have to wait to play Zelda.

First week? Don't you mean first 2 days if the numbers are from the week ending March 4th?

First Week is often a few days for most games since they tend to come out during the Weekend...

The first day is where most of the magic happens though due to prevent orders but you are right it isn't a full week.

That's correct. Considering shortages of Switch it will be interesting to see week two figures.

It's worth it. I clocked over 50 hours and still have plenty to discover. Not to mention I love the fact that with the Switch you can enjoy it anywhere ... as long as it's 3 hours or less :)

Very good! This is definitely a game that will have long legs as more and more people pick up Switches. I wonder what digital sales were like as well!

What happened to the totals on the chartz? 1.49 million is the total for Switch SW overall and Japanese sales are only showing up as ~180k. What's with the discrepancy here?

Not bad for the attach ratio of a brand new console. I can see this selling well thoughtout the year.

Congrats. It will sell buttloads as it's going to be the game to go with at any point of Switch's lifespan.

Overrated. Nintentards keep praising it simply because it got 10 from ign just like GTA V. But did it sell like GTA V? No, of course it didn't..

Zelda is overrated and only people with low mental age praise it like it's the best thing after free food from garbage.

Guys, a good example is the movie Avatar. It is not how fast you sell, sometimes it is more impressive when you do large numbers over a long period of time. Avatar didn't set any opening weekend records but damn did it do well in the long run. Avatar was also a new IP just like Horizon. Zelda on the other hand is like Star Wars - everyone's already looking forward to it cause they know what it is.

I've heard many retailers say that the typical scene is this: two 15-20 yo girls walk up to the shop assistant and say "We want the new Nintendo ! The one with the milking game ! " . I'm not even kidding.

Lifetime sales will be the true time to judge how both games did, since 2 million Switch's weren't even available on launch day, but both games are still great at the end of the day and are great titles for those to play on their respective platforms.

Wiibaron CaptainExplosion (on 09 April 2017)

Gotta have a Switch to play it on. {or WiiU} 85% of Switch players bought it. Only 3% of PS players bought Horizon.

  • -6
Green098 CaptainExplosion (on 09 April 2017)

@Wiibaron The more number of players on a platform will have a more diverse range of players meaning it's going to be hard to produce a game that suits all their tastes so a 3% attach rate is very good on a platform with such a high user base, and most people who bought a Switch were Zelda fans getting it for Zelda. Though I see Botw having a good attach rate throughout the Switch's lifetime and that will definitely have the best chance to outsell Ocarina of Time.

It's not like an 85% userbase is a very big achievement if you take into consideration this is the only AAA game that was available for the system on launch day. It's biggest competitors where a remake of bomberman and 1-2 Switch.

  • +7
StreaK CaptainExplosion (on 09 April 2017)

Actually, it is more like 4.5% of 56 million users. Which would be estimated at about 2.6 million sales which is what it actually did. But still amazing nonetheless. And that's 4.5% in just ONE freaking week buddy! Give this game a break, it's no Zelda with decades of history behind it. It would not surprise me if Horizon outselss Zelda in the long run THEN who'll be laughing???
Uncharted 4 has been out for like a year with 15% attach rate right now.
Time will tell.

Look at the dates. BotW sold in TWO DAYS what Horizon did in ONE WEEK. Zelda likely sold more than Horizon if you compare actual first week sales based on a seven day period.

They are both great games honestly (the quality is there for both), and despite being open world rpg games they are very different, which one you enjoy more is gonna come down to taste / personal preference, its the same reason why i cant pick between Bloodborne and Horizon both are great but they are so different its hard for me to pick one as my favorite.

  • +1
StreaK CaptainExplosion (on 09 April 2017)

@Ka-pi96 Ok, right right, TWO freaking weeks but I doubt it's a full 14 days worth. This stuff is kinda tough to compare unless BOTH games came out exactly on the same day.
In any case, Horizon still pulled off close to 2 million week one (which is like 5 days not a full 7 even).
Zelda may have sold more quicker, but I wonder which game had the bigger drop. Looking forward to next week's numbers. Uncharted 4 had an 82% drop week 2 going from 2.2 million to just 395, 000 copies. Horizon looks to be around 800, 000 week 2.

there just might be a few more ps4 out there in the wild than "U" and a brand new console?
