Elite: Dangerous Will No Longer Officially Support Oculus Rift, Focus is on SteamVR - News
by Craig S , posted on 22 January 2016 / 3,680 ViewsElite: Dangerous developer Frontier has confirmed to Eurogamer that the firm will not officially support the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset any longer and is instead focussed on supporting SteamVR.

Frontier gave Eurogamer the following statement:
"We've supported VR for a few years now, and Elite Dangerous is arguably the world's leading VR-ready game. We want to give players the best possible VR experience however they play - it's something we talked about with Digital Foundry recently - and that means focusing our efforts. Right now, we've chosen to focus on SteamVR. We haven't cut an exclusivity deal with any VR manufacturer, and we're still working with Oculus on Rift support."
This means that the developer will not support Oculus Rift itself beyond the 0.6 SDK, which it has previously used to demo the title.

I do wonder if Valve have thrown a few coins their way in order to have this happen.
Possibly but I honestly don't see Valve as the type that would do that, they haven't really done so in the past and even then some are expecting Valve's VR to be more expensive, though I imagine it would fit well being related to Valve's VR than OR.
