Nintendo: Wii U and 3DS has More Great Games than PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 21 December 2014 / 6,628 Views

Nintendo has made a bold statement in a infographic released last week. They claimed that the Wii U and 3DS combined has more 'great games' than the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PlayStation Vita have combined.

To come up with this claim they counted games with a 85 or better score on Metacritic and a user score of 8.5 or higher. Also the games have be released at retail. In total, there are 19 games for the Wii U and 3DS that meet that criteria, with just eight for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PlayStation Vita.

Here is the infographic Nintendo released:

And even if you count 2014 alone, Nintendo have a lead. (I doubt that this will maintain in future years, but let's see!)

Almost no Xbox/PS4 games have 8.5 or higher user reviews. Fanboys in console wars pepper both sides with zeroes and prevent that from ever happening. Numbers are much more similar when just looking at reviewer scores. Nintendo does make great games though.

22 PS4 games are rated 8.5+. PS4 actually has 1 more 8.5+ game compared to Wii U.

No they don't @TheDanishGamer

I don't see why any one would argue that Metacritic is a lousy source. They don't review the games, they simply take existing scores from popular sources and average them out... Its the best source we have for this sort of thing... and its perfectly fair... Its literally a list of sources. Its like looking at a bibliography and saying "This Isn't Reliable". Also a score of 85 or higher is a perfect boundary for measuring "great games" because an 84% or lower is considered a C which is merely average. The GTA V remake is the only Game with a score that could technically be considered an A so It makes sense that they wouldn't focus on games with an A score.

You know, we have extremely problem with people's opinion & you can not blame them, they want sport simulation games. I have Wii U & 3DS... I tried to give my recommendation to my friends in real life, they laughed at me. Opinion.

sorry but using metacritic as a reference is just pathetic, metacritic is inaccurate at the best of times and many times before when an incorrect review has been posted metacritic will not remove the old score for the correct score and even then there is the fact certain companies are bribing critics to give their games higher review scores than they deserve or deliberately giving other games lower scores than they deserve, every game on metacritic should have the same number of critic submissions however they don't, Destiny is a prime example, on the PS4 its had 95 critics while on the XB1 its only had 11, is that a fair comparison 95 vs 11, no, this article seams to be more fanboy like than ever. (that's my opinion, if i get banned for it then this site is pathetic)

There are many ways to compare Metascores. More games are rated 75+ on PS4 compared to Wii U, even though the Wii has been on the market a year longer than the PS4.

47 Wii U games fit the criteria you have. 34 PS4 games do.

Looks like a few negative Luigi's Mansion reviews came in since this was made.

Are these figures accurate? Because if you add the PS4 and Vita title scores together it might just be more than the Wii U and 3ds.

  • 0
Clyde32 Mystro-Sama (on 22 December 2014)

Not quite accurate. One number off. There are 9 on the other platforms combined(which just means PS4+Vita because no Xbox One game fits the criteria)

Gemmol31 Mystro-Sama (on 22 December 2014)

nintendo have more then those, they only name a small sample, if you count everything they still ahead......look at the picture well, do you really think thats the only games nintendo have that score over a 85 in the past 4 or 5 years

Nintendo legitimates Metacritic, which, in turn, legitimates Nintendo.
Insane Loop.

ryuzaki57 (on 22 December 2014)

They LIE! just Vita+PS4 have around 40 85+ games

  • -3
Clyde32 ryuzaki57 (on 22 December 2014)

Maybe check the actual criteria. Between the 2 there are only 9.

Lawlight (on 22 December 2014)

Don't the WiiU and 3DS have a year headstart? And why 85? I also like how they count Rayman Legends for the WiiU but not for the PS4.

  • -4
Clyde32 Lawlight (on 22 December 2014)

The PS4 version doesn't fit the criteria.

  • 0
Lawlight Lawlight (on 22 December 2014)

Doesn't change anything to the fact that the PS4 still has the game - a better version of it even. In the end, they chose a criteria that suits them.

Rayman Legends was not better on the PS4.

Wii U : 4.5 out of the 8 they claim

Super Smash Bros Wii U: +0.5, half-point for being essentially the same as SSB3DS
Super Mario 3D World: +1
Bayonetta: Non-point, port/remaster
Bayonetta 2: +1
Mario Kart 8: +1
Zelda Winder Waker HD: Non-point, port/remaster
Rayman Legends: Non-point, Available on PS4, XB1, Vita
Pikmin 3: +1

3DS : 6.5 out of the 10 they claim

Super Smash Bros 3DS: +0.5, half-point for being the same thing as SSBWU
Zelda Link Between Worlds: +1
Pokemon X: +0.5, half-point for being the same as Pokemon Y
Pokemon Y: +0.5, half-point for being the same as Pokemon X
Zelda Ocarina 3D: Non-point, port/remaster
Fire Emblem Awakening: +1
Animal Crossing: +1
Persona Q: +1
Bravely Default: +1
Virtue's Last Reward: Non-point, available on Vita

11 full points. Let's match that:

InFAMOUS Second Son (PS4) +1
InFAMOUS First Light (PS4) +1
Sunset Obsessive (XB1) +1
Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Vita) +1
Destiny (PS4 & XB1) +1
Shadow of Mordor (PS4 & XB1) +1
Farcry 4 (PS4 & XB1) +1
Freedom Wars (Vita) +1
Tearaway (Vita) +1
Dragon Age: Inquisition (PS4 & XB1) +1
LittleBigPlanet 3 (PS4) +1
Killzone Shadowfall (PS4) +1
Minecraft (XB1, Vita, PS4) +1
Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare (PS4 & XB1) +1
Assassins Creed Unity (PS4 & XB1) +1
Forza Horizon 2 (XB1) +1
Forza Motorsport 5 (XB1) +1
Killer Instinct (XB1) +1
Ryse (XB1) +1
Dead Rising 3 (XB1) +1
Titanfall (XB1) +1
Resogun (PS4) +1
Rogue Legacy (PS4) +1
War Thunder (PS4) +1
Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- (PS4) +1
Transistor (PS4) +1

If you're keeping track, that's 26 titles that were mid- to high-profile games. Nintendo should probably refrain from making bold (untrue) statements, especially since they are on the hardware manufacturer that doesn't have a version of Minecraft.

these are for games with a metacritic of 8.5 and higher.......I did not even read your full list, first thing I seen was little big planet in your list and I already knew, you a big fan of the other systems so instead of this being a non bias post, its fully bias, it makes no sense going through the message after that

oh heres my proof of little big planet under 85 rating
http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/littlebigplanet-3

just cause it did not have a 85 does not mean its a bad game

Jon-Erich Azuren (on 22 December 2014)

Opinions aside, you do realize that you actually can buy Bayonetta 1 separately on the e-Shop, right? So it's still considered a separate release.

  • +1
Mnementh Azuren (on 22 December 2014)

Nintendo made a set of criteria and published the result based on that criteria. You did made a different set of criteria and posted results based on that. So your list has nothing to do with what Nintendo said.
