Probably PS4 will not die with 5 years like Wii and will continue selling well for the next 7/8 years

But will it have peak years like the Wii did? At some time, they were selling 2.5 million a month

Just wondering, what was the Wii's price?

This is by far the most interesting comparison, I wonder how its gonna end? Will the ps4 out sell the wii? Shitz gonna be interesting, thats for sure

1,824 unit difference last month - With PS3's launch in Japan......not good for the PS4, I expect the gap to collapse fast. Lifetime PS4 will probably still end up on top. Wii lost steam after only 3 years.

There's one caveat here: the Wii came out in all regions during the holidays, while the PS4 just came out in Japan. In Europe the gap is widening in the PS4's favor. The Wii sold just short of 700k units in Europe in December 2006, while the PS4 sold a million more units than that in the five weeks of 2013 is was on sale. The PS4 sold 516k units combined in Europe for January and February, while in Jan.+Feb. of '07 the Wii sold 435k units. The only reason the gap has narrowed is because the PS4's absence in Japan and the fact that the PS4 was trailing behind the Wii in America for Jan.+Feb. sales. This is why I've repeatedly been suggesting that we get a regional breakdown. While it's more data to process, it gives a more accurate presentation of how exactly the systems are trending against each other over time.

Shadow1980 I think the true "Caveat" here is that this comparison does not include the PS4's massive 11 month preorder window that literally gave it a head start of over 1 million units and greatly improved its future sales by giving the media recourse to imply that those 1 million plus sales all took place in a matter of 24 hours. I'd like to request that VGChartz posts a Gap Chart that displays sales dated from when each console became available for purchase to the present so that we could look at some more realistic figures.

wow so PS4 sales were even better than PS3? WiiU came out Fall 2012, PS4 came out Fall 2013 and already ahead of Wii U? i have a Wii U launch day but damn i have never touch it sitting dust since summer of 2013 :( i used it to watch netflix and youtube instead of gaming now. sad. PS4 i never care about, bro bought one i only watch netflix on it too. hope youtube app will be available on PS4. Xbone, i never really give a crap about it at that price and Killer INstinct was the only game i want but it wa s abeta, i ain't wasting $550+ for a sitting dust console.

Dechizen (on 12 March 2014)

you cant really compare because the wii was the super casual console, lots of old people and moms bought fro fitness and things, nobody really took the wii as console for gamers

Michael-5 (on 12 March 2014)

I did. Loved XenoBlade and Skyward Sword. What are you talking about?

soulmonk (on 12 March 2014)

I think what @Dechizen is saying was that the Wii sales were boosted by those who didn't buy consoles before and aren't really going to buy them again (retirement homes, church recreational places, etc…) And the PS4 is doing remarkable seeing as though they aren't getting those aforementioned non-gamers.

I think you'll find your mistaken, I for one was served well by the Wii last gen. It was my only console last gen, and I'm still finding games to play on it even now.

ganoncrotch (on 13 March 2014)

Utterly rubbish. Wii has some amazing games, when you play on a console that has the likes of madworld on it and you suggest it hasn't "core games" nonsense

Lots of people bought PS2 because it was an early DVD player too, and a cheap one at that. The Wii was a video game console, just like the others.
