Wii is awesome. I will soon be an owner of te wii in july.

0

wii4ever (on 03 June 2008)

Well i am VERY angry with Ubisoft.
This company dared to comment prior to WII's launch that they strongly support WII as they see in this console great potential..
Along with RE4 exclusivity to Gamecube the biggest lie in recent videogames history.

Onward to the next challenge. (btw what is hurdle that Wii needs/will pass ?)

@ thekitchensink

But there is a problem with your analogy. I've used the PS3 and SONY products as part of my ministry in a positive light for socials to name as an example. And I thank God though the Blood of the Lamb that He has allowed for us the financial means to afford such worldly items by humbly putting Him first in tithes and then financial responsibilities. So you need to be VERY careful when eqauting worldly objects to what's righteous and what's not when attempting to speak from the Spirit.

;)

bardicverse (on 30 May 2008)

There was an omission from that story. Right before the battle, some random dude popped out of a portal and handed David a BFG. No one could describe it though, so they just went back to calling it a rock. ;)

0

thekitchensink (on 30 May 2008)

The Wii is David to Sony's Goliath.

This is the account of the battle between David and Goliath given in 1 Samuel, chapter 17:[1]

Saul and the Israelites are facing the Philistines at Socoh in Judah. Twice a day for forty days Goliath, the champion of the Philistines, comes out between the lines and challenges the Israelites to send out a champion of their own to decide the outcome of the battle in single combat, but Saul and all the Israelites are afraid. David is present, bringing food for his older brothers. He is told that Saul has promised to reward any man who will defeat the Philistine champion, and declares he is not afraid. Saul reluctantly agrees and offers his armour, which David declines in favour of his sling and five stones which he takes from the brook.

David and Goliath confront each other, Goliath with his armour and shield-bearer, David with his staff and sling. "And the Philistine cursed David by his gods", but David replies: "This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down, and cut off your head; and I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that Yahweh saves not with sword and spear; for the battle is Yahweh's, and he will give you into our hand."[2]

David then strikes Goliath with a stone from his sling, and the Philistine falls on his face to the ground. David seizes the sword of the giant and kills him, and cuts off his head. The Philistines flee and are pursued by the Israelites "as far as Gath and the gates of Ekron". David puts the armour of Goliath in his own tent, and takes the head to Jerusalem. Saul sends Abner to inquire whose son this is who has routed the Philistines and killed their champion; Abner brings David before Saul, who asks him whose son he is, "And David answered, 'I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite'."

cograts to da wii. despite halo 3, gta4, price cuts for 360 n ps3, the wii managed to stand and cross many hurdles. now i wonder what big wii game will come out next. e3 08

0

JaggedSac (on 29 May 2008)

Nice, Wii 3rd parties are suckering enough people into buying shovelware.

0

The Ghost of RubangB (on 29 May 2008)

@Jagosix, oh sorry, I meant for the last half of 2007, not LTD. But it's happening just about every week now.

In the latest weekly worldwide figures, Wii sold 3.3 million games, 360 sold 1.3 million, and PS3 sold 1.1 million. More than 50% of Wii game sales are 3rd party games, so in that one week, the Wii sold at least 1.65 million 3rd party games. That's more than 1.3 million or 1.1 million. Numbers are definitely inaccurate due to Wii Fit, but that's less than a million games.

0

FeArLeSs (on 29 May 2008)

The interesting thing now is I wonder what kind of EXCUSE MS will make now..

Just like the "history shows who ever is first to 10million in the US will win the console war" cough what a load of bull ! oh and dont forget "first to 100 million wins" ..

This is like the biggest pwning in history of video games.. an underpowered machine
went up against two powerful machine! haha

0

Wow. It happened three weeks earlier than predicted. Probably because those 360 sales got adjusted down.

0

Jordahn (on 29 May 2008)

@ llewdebkram

Nope. There really hasn't been a real pricedrop since the 60 GB was reduced with the introduction of the 80 GB version. But PS3 sales have steadily risen with the 80 and 40 GB versions.

0

llewdebkram (on 29 May 2008)

What's that little wobble in the PS3 line, was it a price drop?

0

Jordahn (on 29 May 2008)

"Ssyn says:
Heh, I wonder how much angst is going on over at M$'s corporate building, but props to Wii for beating the 360 in its prime(and only) region."

It just goes to show that being first to market doesn't promise success. Just look at the Dreamcast. Too bad for Microsoft that they eluded to that fact while making the false claim that the PS2 was first to market.

0

Jordahn (on 29 May 2008)

It's good to see a new market leader and in this case especially Nintendo since for some, Nintendo was written off last generation. This time, Nintendo did it with a console that's less powerful and cheaper than the competitions. For the console gaming industry, this is great, but hopefully, this isn't bad for gamers in the long run. The great thing about the Wii is that it's reaching a newer audience (elderly, females, non-gamers, pretty much everyone but your typical casual and hardcore gamers) which, like I just said, is great for the industry as a whole. But I hope that software developers will not start focusing on developing games that cater more to this newer audience than the typical gamer that helped push the market where it is today. That's not to say that the Wii doesn't have games that appeal to the typical gamer. But if I had the choice, I'd rather purchase that game on a hi-def console (PS3 or 360) than one than isn't (Wii) provided that the developer pushes the hardware of that hi-def console.

0

here_wii_go (on 29 May 2008)

great !

0

SnesTea (on 29 May 2008)

Wii is official console leader?!?!

I blame Wii Fit.

0

Resident_Hazard (on 29 May 2008)

The only thing now is for the 3rd party Devs and Publishers to hurry up and get their higher quality wares out for the Wii. Too bad many switched over to the Wii AFTER it launched (Square-Enix, Sega, and Capcom all dropping various degrees of PS3 support to refocus on Wii and DS late summer last year) rather than beforehand--the higher quality 3rd party offerings won't start flowing in on the Wii until, probably, the third quarter of this year through March 2009.

But, very high numbers of companies still did switch over, or added their support to the Wii after it showed to be a huge success. Those games are coming soon enough (but that's not soon enough).

This is about when I expected this to happen. Reggie was right again.

0

Millennium (on 29 May 2008)

"But, I still can't understand, how is it possible to be comparable to PS3 and 360. This comparison is utterly irrational."

Only as long as you consider graphics to be a major factor. Once you reject that hypothesis, the comparison becomes much easier.

Still, though, while I figured this would happen sooner or later, I didn't think it would happen until August. Wii Fit must be pushing more systems than I thought it would.

0

scydrex (on 29 May 2008)

An Encomium is rightly deserved by Nintendo

In a way, I kind of regret they have come to dominate the market so quickly.
At least PS360 fanboys had some arguments left as to why the wii sucked and their system of choice was going to pwn the rest.

Now that Nintendo is on top of the world, I predict it's going to be a bit boring. What can those guys say now? ''True, dude, that console sells like hell week in and week out. To mommies and grannies, though. It still sucks!''

Damn, Nintendo. You should have done this a bit slower, so we could savor this for a while longer. Kinda like eliminating all the suspense by telling you who the killer is halfway through the movie.

Hello Fellow Gamers. @XanderZane _ I agree with you %100. Why do the numbers change like that? HHHmmm....smells fishy to me. Well, The NPD numbers will be out soon.
@The Ghost of RubangB - Show me where the 3rd party Wii Titles have out sold the combined sales of all the PS3 & X360. Please. I really want to know.
The system is popular - but by no means is it better than the PS3 or X360. The software is great coming from 1st party. But 3rd party Wii Games can't hold a candle to 3rd party PS3 & X360 games.

0

JaggedSac (on 29 May 2008)

"Heh, I wonder how much angst is going on over at M$'s corporate building, but props to Wii for beating the 360 in its prime(and only) region."

I doubt it. This is pretty much just a small side-project for them. When you are a debt-free company you can try out things. They might show some angst about Nintendo if they created an Office Suite that took in more profit.

""You guys misunderstood my point. Apple has made itself into the 'cool' guy. Regardless that all mp3 players offer the same functionality. Nintendo has made itself into the 'it' thing for the mainstream gamers."

I apologize fot not being clear. I was not comparing the functionality between consoles. I was mainly focusing on public image. I am saying it is not really the product that sells. But the idea of the product.

0

The Ghost of RubangB (on 29 May 2008)

A few of us have been repeating this over and over, but here it goes again:

Wii's 3rd party game sales > all 360 game sales
Wii's 3rd party game sales > all PS3 game sales

0

Tharthesos (on 29 May 2008)

@anyone criticizing 3rd party sales on Wii:

If 3rd parties don't want to jump on ninty's that's their problem (and show how this industry has "petrified" itself from the NES era). Wii almost have 50% of market share and not producing (even scaled down ports) games for it is pure madness. PS3 and 360 combined won't make a large enough market for those high profile games and they won't be able to cash back like they did in the PS2 era!!!

No doubt Nintendo has taken a different route this time round and it's quite a steer for some companies to follow up, as Nintendo's product will always sell on own's platform, but sooner or later they will have to realize how much money they are not making (or probably losing) not making games specifically for Wii!

0

The Ghost of RubangB (on 29 May 2008)

It'll happen Disciple, there are just a few last kinks for the stupid devs to work out. They'll try to hold onto a Wii studio and an HD studio, and they'll dump 10% of their money into one and get 10% of their profit from the other. They'll learn soon enough. Expect some fun news at this E3 and TGS.

0

DiscipleInAgony (on 29 May 2008)

On other occasions i d be really happy with the news and in a point i am..
But the so called exclusives given to Wii by Ubisoft had made me very conservative..
It seems that numbers cannot convince 3rd party devs to bring large acclaimed franchises to wii....

GoNintendo article about story, http://gonintendo.com/?p=44533

"I may not completely trust the data from VGChartz, and I won’t post a story without a disclaimer until Nintendo puts out a press release, but I think it’s pretty safe to say the Wii has indeed surpassed the Xbox 360’s install base in North America. We knew that this was going to happen soon, based on the official NPD numbers from previous months. If Nintendo doesn’t release a statement, we should be able to 100% confirm this by using the next set of NPD numbers. Huge thanks to all that sent this in!"

0

bardicverse (on 29 May 2008)

so, with the Wii being the worldwide leader for the current gen home consoles, I wonder how the big companies are going to respond. We've already seen Capcom douche out on Nintendo with Street Fighter and Resident Evil 5. At the start of the production for those games, these numbers would not have been predictable. Scaled down versions a year after the PS3/XB360 versions come out? What about Konami? They've been stepping up their Wii library. What do you think is the likelihood of seeing a Silent Hill game on the Wii?

0

Sullla (on 29 May 2008)

"Microsoft must do something to try to obtain second place. PS3 is already less than 6 millions units away. Even though a lot of them are bought for video purposes, it's the units that count. Not software."

@reptile168, you have it exactly backwards. Software is what matters in gaming, not hardware. Anyone who knows anything about this industry will tell you that. That's not an attack on any of the current consoles either, as all of them are selling good amounts of software worldwide... if not in individual regions, sometimes.

0

XanderZane (on 28 May 2008)

Why did the XBox 360 numbers get lowered? Wasn't it at 19.2 like 3hrs ago? Well, thankfully this site is faulty and the number are rarely accurate. They had the PS3 outselling the XBox 360 last month and the NPD numbers proved them wrong (again).
Anyway, the Wii is going to win this generation anyways. I'm happy for them. Proves that high tech game consoles don't always win the war, even with a Blu-Ray media in it.

This is priceless...didn't a Microsoft rep. call out reggie on his "bet"? Even if you use the "by june" as "by the beggining of june", Reggie is still right..um..yayee =]

and yer, fishy beat me to it yeah - the Wii actually had more million-seller 3rd party titles than both the 360 and the PS3 in the same time frame. So yer, its not like 3rd party titles don't sell, its that they won't compare [not easily at least] to ninty's software.

0

@ dreamcast - You sound like Aaron Greenburg, who recycles that same tired "critique" over and over again. Just give it up man.

0

You're wrong. The Wii sold more third party software in the first 18 months than the X360 and PS3.

0

dreamcast210 (on 28 May 2008)

no doubt they are market leader. but the overall trend is that on nintendo's console, nintendo is the market leader. i think they've built themselves quite the ecosystem to allow their games to sell and sell like mad.

but overall, with all these hardware sales, if you take out the 1st party input, the 3rd party numbers do not match up. what does this mean for the long term? 3rd party game makers either don't get or want to get what types of games sell on the Wii and as such are not benfitting from the hardware's success.

(of course some have seen the success and appear to understand, but overall the 3rd parties don't get it)

I think even Apple would be jealous of Nintendo's success at this point, actually. Though they hold an indomitable position in the portable MP3 player market, Apple's personal computer market presence is barely 5% of the total personal computer market (yet accounts for around half of all personal computer profits).
