Crytek's game survives the hype, revealing more than a pretty face.

It's easy to complain of shooting games - they are repetitive and dumb. Is difficult to speak well - or at least was. After BioShock and, despite everything, Gears of War, arguments are given to the genre to show that there is something besides inconsequential shooting.

In the case of Crysis, a so to speak spiritual successor of Far Cry, there are immense forests richly illustrated, intelligent enemies, an arsenal and undisputed history that if not the most original, at least respect the intelligence of the player. It is undoubtedly one of the best shooting games of already produced. Beautiful, exciting, engaging and challenging. But requires a powerful computer, the majority of casual console players yet don't have.

Produced by the German Crytek, the game drew attention since its first videos were released in the distant 2006. The scenes show a world way too real - trees being cutted, huts were destroyed, dust explosions were rised, as well as smoke and debris - not to mention the water. Still, things are not just flowers. Even if the game is technically impressive, After almost three years of development, is still a benchmark set to be beaten my upcoming games. So, what's up with Crysis. Thankfully, the game is not only that.

Ever imagined FFX or Halo:CE with these looks? Graphics are not evertyhing, but a hell lot.

The hundreds of miles of forests and islands give the player freedom to choose their own path. And the depth of interaction with the scene ensures that each has a different story to tell. A Team of American Anthropologists held operation in an island of the Philippines Sea. Without apparent reason, North Korea army acts and makes hostages. The year is 2020 and you (Nomad), of the Special Forces, must infiltrate to rescue the archaeologists and find out what was wrong.

Your armor, the Nano Suit, turns soldiers into heroes, throwing substances in the bloodstream to change the functioning of the body. It ensures the excitement in the many fierce battles, with quick changes of strategy. The player can choose between four states of armor: speed, armor, strength and invisibility. In theory, it seems easy. In practice ... guess. North Korean armies spring from where you did not expect, and they know very well what to do.

What to do now? You decide, after all.

The player can throw almost all objects of the scenarios: crabs, stoves, roofs, trees, boxes and, of course, enemies alive. There is no obligation to meet objectives, like to grab confidential information on computers, but instead you are free to decide which path to follow, something quite rare in games of first person shootings. This complexity makes Crysis a game for old-schoolers. There is no easy pathor foolproof tactic. The world, after all, is alive. You may luck or chance, or just use your head all the time.

The arsenal includes old weapons well known in the genre of first person shooting. Pistol, cartridge shotgun, machine gun, rifle, rocket launcher and so on. The difference is that they may be modified during the game with laser-sights, binoculars, tactical silencer and other accessories, essential for survival.

You can adjust the visual characteristics for a nice performance in smaller machines, but do not be fooled. To show all his exuberance on visual effects and physics, Crysis requires a powerful computer. Do not worry, though. A Radeon HD 4770, a $99 card, should be enough to ensure you a playable framerate at high settings and 14x9 resolution.

And even after completing all missions in Crysis, the game makes sure that you have not explored everything it offers. So many different paths and approaches to complete the same goal, that you can just play again and do everything differently.

Crysis was the second major lesson of shooting games in 2007. First, BioShock guided the genre by a shadowy world that will survive for years in the minds of players. Now, Crysis shows that a history of action can be passed in a paradisiacal setting without insulting the intelligence of the player, and not take his freedom. And finally, Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare completes the trinity.

I was about to say 'undertracked' possibly the first time even for me, then I noticed the sales are for EMEAA only. It's still undertracked but it's almost painfully obvious this time.
