Ghostbusters: The Video Game makes you forget about the sorry excuses for games of the 80's

I played them all, and frankly I wanted to forget them.  The Ghostbusters on the Commodore 64, NES, GameBoy... none of them did the Boys in grey justice.  But those days are over.  Terminal Reality's infernal engine built specifically for this game does wonders and for the first time ever you can fight off those pesky poltergeists with the help of Ray, Egon, Peter, and Winston.

From the very beginning the game is set up as a cinematic adventure complete with the old Columbia Pictures image, and the setup which would allow for the Ghostbusters theme to begin and have the "No Ghost" animation appear.  You're introduced into the Role as the Rookie and Peter is insistant in not knowing your name because of what happened to the last guy.

You start by chasing Slimer after he breaks out of some sort of containment pod, and unfortunately you don't manage to catch him before he takes off.  Where is he headed? The Sedgewick hotel - one of many familiar sites from the Movies.

Overall, with the Ghostbusters back together, you feel immediately engulffed in the game and you focus on busting ghosts, which is extremely fun.  The game only has 8 missions but the missions are fairly long so they'll keep you busy.

Multiplayer's got some room for improvement though.  While it's fun to play the different modes such as Capture, the limited time really puts a dampner on the whole idea, and might prevent people from hanging around the multiplayer mode too much.

I give this game a 9.5 out of 10.  If you're into buying games and haven't already got your hands on one -- get out there now, Cadet.

I wish I had the PAL copy. The Sony label is just so epic.
