Earth defense force 2017 is a truly hard game to review. The game has bad graphics and horrible voice acting. When your enemies die they fly dumbly into the air with limp bodies. There are only maybe 6 different types of environments. The achievements in this game are lacking any originality and are very simple. And the game gets very difficult to beat on the harder difficulties. Yet I cannot put this down it is so addictive and fun that you will find yourself playing for hours.
The game is a third person shooter that takes itself very lightly. The story is very simple, aliens invade earth and then burrow underground and then they start to breed. You are a soldier in the Japanese branch of the Earth Defense Force (EDF). During the time of the game you find that you are the only ones of the EDF that are still alive.
The game plays very nicely, the game is fast and epic, but at some points the game starts to get quite laggy when there are a lot of enemies on screen at the same time (which is a bad thing for the last 5 levels or so). The game also has vehicles that I find control horribly; there is the hoverbike, robot, helicopter, and the tank, I find that the most useful vehicle is the hoverbike because some of the levels are quite long. Also there really aren’t that many types of enemies in this game, but they do often take an enemy and give it a different color/ make it larger so as that it looks like a new enemy. The enemies are very alien (:-P) they differ from giant bugs (ants/spiders) to robots.
Another problem I had with the game that I have a problem with is the cut scenes (all two of them). Also the music is not superb, or even good. Also one of the most annoying things is that whenever there is something of any importance in the game the camera focuses on it, but the games keeps continuing so that means when you are fighting some robots then the camera all of a sudden looks in the opposite direction.
In conclusion this game is horrible, yet I simply cannot step playing it. This is a good thing because there are 54 levels. Just taking a machine gun and plowing down ants is super fun. And I suggest that anybody that likes games or b movies should buy this game. With a fun co-op mode and laughable dialogue.

They used to have American sales...Seems they backtracked. EDF sold better in JP than they are tracking, as per Famitsu. Just picked it up for $6.99 at a buy one get one sale at Blockbuster. Great times. I'm at 44% complete. Such a fantastic game for co-op. Message | Report |
