In Career Mode, you may get an offer to join your national team at the start of a season, by playing the second best player in your country. Normally, this occurs in the third section, after the Australian Open. If you take part in the open, and do well enough to get a considerable rank boost, you can overtake the number two player in your country before the qualification. Then, if you play the match, you are playing your own character. You control both players, and can have a rally with yourself - it gets very confusing at the serve, when you aim and move the recieving player with the same stick. This has no effect on your progress through the career, and, no matter what happens, you will be in the national team.
