Star Fox: Zero (WiiU) > Opinions (35)

fleischr posted 24/07/2018, 06:16
I've had some good fun with this game - in spite of the controls. Really delivers that arcade-style feel and visually much better than what it's given credit for. There's genuinely no other game like this - so I encourage you to check it out.

The real tragedy of this, is that it didn't have to be an awful game. I would still have been unhappy that they took the lazy route they did, basically making it a "Star Fox 64 Remix" instead of an actual NEW game. But, if they had JUST had normal Star Fox controls, with no pointless gimmick schemes, it could have at least been fun, and thus been worth buying.

And yes, the fact that Nintendo/Miyamoto will likely use this as "proof" that people don't want more Star Fox, really does suck. Star Fox 64 deserves a GOOD sequel. I've been waiting for one since 1999. And I fear I may never actually get one.

can't believe how bad this game was. The designs of the enemys and the world was so awful and how did they mess up the camera
we rarely get a starfox game and now that this is dead on the water it will take years for a new one

Come on - drop the price already and advertise it - such a shame!

STAR FOX ZERO hasn't finished its first year yet to make that claim. I think this game is better than COMMAND but not as classic as STAR FOX or 64.

OK results, but not great. Here's hoping the next STAR FOX game doesn't rely on motion controls as its selling point.

I don't get all the hate for this game. It's not great or amazing, but good, and it came with a really fun extra game.also, the Co-op play, is really enjoyable. I guess good isn't enough anymore.

What a catastrophic flop for Nintendo. I'm not surprised though - I figure more than half of Wii-Us sold are not in use or have been traded in, not to mention NX is coming out soon. The Wii-U is end of life and software sales for it have plummeted as a result. Not to mention the terrible controls of the game probably haven't helped things...

The sales are low in Japan, yes. But over here? Nah. They're OK. Not GREAT, but ok overall.

When it comes to the comparison of this game to Ratchet and Clanks sales on the PS4, don't forget that a good deal of the PS4s large user base would not exactly be in the age group that those games are designed to appeal to.

Just a thought.

Also gotta say, considering the development time of this those sales are fairly low, being very nice to them.

Those of you who own it, does it feel like a proper big title? Some reviewers said it can be finished in an afternoon :/

If the game performs well in the West, then a STAR FOX sequel may be doable. Did SF643D's weak Japanese sales kill the franchise or stop SFZ from being made? No. This won't either, as long as it does well stateside.

@meret it could have sold 2 units and you would have said that, I've seen ps franchises sell more and you're commented "bomba". Blind love

I have bought the game but just can't get on board with the controls. The new control scheme was the solution for a problem that never existed.

@mr puggsly but this is like the only game to release on the WiiU for some time. Ratchet has alot of competition, everyone has been surprised by ratchets numbers considering the franchise was on the decline for some time its nice to see the reboot was such a success.

Thought SF would have sold better than Ratchet. Guess Ratchet is a bigger mascot these days.

Looking at the UK sales and comparing it with the sale patterns of other games, I cannot imagine this doing much better than 65-70k in EU. But who knows, may be much bigger in Germany/France.

So USA 157k - which probably will be adjusted down to 125k following TP HD example

JTurner82 posted 29/04/2016, 04:49
No, the Japanese Media Create charts clearly say it sold 25k only, both SKUs combined. The one with SF:Z & SFG had 17k and SF:Z only sold 8k. So it's certainly not great numbers for Japan at all.

For America, however, it looks like it did far better.

Nautilus posted 29/04/2016, 04:41
It actually did around 50 k in Japan if im not mistaken. It had 2 SKU, with each selling roughly 25 k.

So far, the opening numbers for STAR FOX ZERO are as follows.

The game did very poorly in Japan, taking only 26,000.

It has, however, performed far better overseas. According to VGChartz, it is the #1 selling game for WiiU for America's past week, and sold 157,000. This is also a superior debut than SF 643D and SF:A in America, both of which were less than 50k.
