Very Nice. A million sales is solid for a spinoff, especially on the Wii U. Other than that One Piece crossover in 2012, this was probably the best-selling Warriors game of the past decade. Unless you combine the various DW7 versions.

Not to mention, the non-Japanese sales are stellar for a Warriors game. DW7 sold 0.56 million in Europe and America combined across the PS3 and 360, compared to this game's 0.81 million on a single less popular console. Even DW4, the best-selling game in franchise history, only sold 0.84 million in those two regions, and that was on the PS2!

Barring a major falling out between Koei and Nintendo, I think we're going to see a sequel on the NX, especially considering the effort being made on Hyrule Warriors Legends. Maybe there will be more Koei Tecmo games on Nintendo platforms in the future. At very least, I expect there will be at least a ports of Dead or Alive and Warriors for the Wii U and NX.

@KyleeStrutt But seriously when does Sakurai ever make games that aren't Nintendo? He might be officially independent, but he rarely ever makes games for other companies.
Message | Report
KyleeStrutt posted 26/01/2015, 06:55
Sora isn't second party, its completely independent, also it wasn't the main developer, Sora has only one employee, Masahiro Sakurai, so no the mayority of the game was developed by Bamco.
Even so, the game was a collaboration between 2 third parties, so by your definition Smash WiiU is a third party game.
Message | Report
Paatar posted 26/01/2015, 12:15
@KyleeStrutt It was developed mainly by Sora, however Bandai Namco was a part of it. Sora is a second party dev, so basically first. Smash is a game I would say is considered first party.
Message | Report
KyleeStrutt posted 25/01/2015, 07:25
If that's the case then Smash WiiU is a third party game as Bamco made it.

There's already a third party game to sell over 1m on WiiU!
Message | Report
Paatar posted 25/01/2015, 07:31
@KyleeStrutt Yes, it actually is a third party game. It is not made by Nintendo, therefore, not first party. A game which is MADE by Nintendo makes it first party, however, Hyrule Warriors was MADE by Koei Tecmo, which is an individual third party company. Just because Nintendo publishes it, it doesn't make it first party.

To give you a random example of historical sales:

Dynasty warriors 4 for ps2 sold 274k in its first 4 months

@Gammalad I would bet undertracked; it was already undertracked before so seems logical it is still. With digital this game is probably at 700 to 800k depending on how many stores stock it in what quantities (it's a niche genre so specialist stores like Gamestop might be a bit cautious but then it also has the Zelda name sooo). Either way, factoring in digital this game is looking very strong.

So the game is at ~477k according to VGChartz as of Oct 18 with a confirmed undertracking of 25k in the US alone. Which means this is a good ways past 500k as of Oct 18; I would ballpark it at 550k to 600k at that time. I'd say we are well past 600k right now, perhaps in the 700k range. Impressive.
