thats alot of maybes and considering the PS3 is the best version it still would have came out on top since no one with the option would go for a worse version. And no I doubt Namco would have done and f version for Wii just for western release there not doing that work

Message | Report
oni-link posted 01/03/2010, 11:17
@novasonic

Sales "could" have been much better IMHO but NB really dropped the ball on this one by releasing a defective and buggy game. I'm actually suprised it sold this WELL as it mostly met Famitsu's LTD sales in Japan in less than a couple of months. I'm just hoping they could sort this out as bad publicity could really affect sales overseas!

novasonic posted 23/02/2010, 11:17
Sucks that they have to recall this. Maybe sales will get a nice boost when it's rereleased.

@roccerfeller, I doubt that NSMBWii had any negative effect on TOG sales, but I am certain that being released one week before FFXIII had almost everything to do with TOG sales

roccerfeller posted 08/02/2010, 05:01
this game has done okay, but honestly thesales it has right now are more in line with what I thought it would have done 1st week. Maybe being released near NSMB Wii, Sam War 3 and FF13 killed some of its sales?

You can get your disk replaced (though obviously I'm not going to bother, being outside of Japan). But aside from that the new revision is also hitting stores. No idea on numbers.

@alekth:

Wow, that's awesome that they released a new shipment! :D

But is this just merely a disc-replacement program, or a real new shipment to stores?

Any idea how many were shipped?
Message | Report
alekth posted 06/02/2010, 06:12
The game is still printed. They have just issued a new batch (with fixes for some bugs), so if there was shortage/no copies inbetween the two, that might have been the reason. http://taletalesource.blog69.fc2.com/blog-entry-2142.html
Message | Report
oni-link posted 05/02/2010, 07:25
well it did sell out of it's initial shipments and is very close to famitsu's (and probably NamcoBandai's) lifetime sale for Japan:http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=5582. It's just a matter of economics to see if there is enough demand to necessitate printing more copies and how much!

thanks Soriku looks like ToG will still meet expectations that famitsu set since it's only 5 wks old and it's already 210K. I'm still holding to my guess of ~260-270K lifetime in Japan and 600K worldwide.

@soriku,

okay cool, but I'm still very happy that it surpassed Famitsu's estimate for lifetime sales in Japan within a month of sales. I'm sure that NB's estimate is around the same as famitsu's anyways which would deem this a mild success in Japan; seeing all the disappointment of some 3rd party games recently. This will definitely hit gold status as long as vgchartz tracks all numbers in all territories unlink ToS:DoNW!!!

Darth, the shortages are probably due because it sold out of it's initial shipment (according to famitsu's prediction http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=5582 ) and this tales is about to surpass it's expected lifetime forcast very soon. NamcoBandai probably did not expect the demand for this game. A shame and hopefully they would still regain any momentum lost because of this. BTW famitsu's(and probably NamcoBandai) lifetime forcast for this game in Japan was 180K-230K!!!

I just found out that this game has become the 2nd All Time Platinum title on My Nintendo Channel. (1st one is 428)
I gave this a full score as well.

And I suppose there is some shortage? because some of the game shops here in HK are still selling it at HIGHER price than I bought on day 1.. (now costs as much as 2x of the new Zelda DS)

Don't think it needs saving. I think sales are pretty decent despite what ppl might say. It's sure to hit at least 250K in Japan alone and that seems quite decent compared to many 3rd party games on the Wii lately. Besides with how ToS2 sold I'm sure NamcoBandai braced for the worse. This game probably performed better than their worst case scenario which would still put up a profit for NamcoBandai!

I don't know if I'd call DotNW poorly received--the game WAS still financially successful and it has its small share of devoted fans, including myself (I personally thought it was a pretty good sequel; not as epic as the original, perhaps, but I still enjoyed it very much).

That said, I DO think Graces will have the advantage of being the first "true" Tales title for the Wii. I don't know whether it'll be a success or not, but based on the fact that the preorders have improved, it sounds pretty hopeful.

TheConduit posted 19/10/2009, 11:40
The Famitsu estimates for this game were far to low with 180k -230k copies total forecast.

Considering that Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the new world sold 220k I find that estimate odd.

Tales of Symphonia DOTNW was poorly received, a sequel while Graces is a mother ship title and released while the Wii had less consoles in Japan.

Graces will probable sell around 500k in Japan alone
