I wasn't a resident evil fan to begin with. I didn't even play any of the earlier games prior to RE4's release. I remember the day I first got it for my gamecube, putting it in, not knowing what to expect; I went in fresh so to speak. Once I finished playing, I just wanted to start again and play through everything; the thrilling quick-time events that have now become a staple in most action games, the frightening boss battles that make you feel desperate, hopeless, and most importantly, SCARED, and the awesome level settings. At that moment, RE4 made me a full-fledged resident evil fan.
Recently, I just picked up the wii edition of RE4, with many reviews referring to it as the definite version of all the releases, and I found myself just as enthralled with it as I was the first time I played it. The wii controls take some time getting used to, but I find the wii-mote to be a perfect fit for precise shooting and aiming. It is now easier than to ever to aim at specific limb parts on an enemy and shoot with more accuracy. Capcom adjusted the game's difficulty to accomodate with the new control scheme, but they've allowed players the option to play the game with either a gamecube or classic controller, so it's possible players will find a control scheme that suits them perfectly.
The graphics didn't receive any sort of overhaul but that's not such a bad thing considering the game already looked awesome to begin with. However, the game can now be played in 16:9 widescreen and supports dolby digital surround sound. The audio design in this game is still chilling as it was in 2005, from the groans and screams of the villagers to the sound of a record player playing music backwards with a scratching sound added to add a sinister tone into its vibe. If this doesn't scare you, there are parts in the game that WILL.
I can honestly say this without hyperbole that RE4 wii edtion is essential for every mature wii owner's library. Even though I've bought a different version of a game I've already once owned and played, it still feels fresh on the wii. RE4 has no equal when compared to its level fear and action, and it won't be topped by any game for years to come.
