Shiki Tohno is the 17-year old son of a wealthy family who gained the power to see lines along which anything can be easily cut while recovering in hospital after an accident as a nine-year-old child, an accident that resulted in him developing severe anaemic symptoms and being sent to live with his relatives, the Arimas. Despite his special ability, he is able to live a normal life for the next eight years thanks to magical glasses, given to him by a red-haired woman whom he came to call “sensei”, which stopped him from seeing the lines.

Tsukihime picks up after Shiki gets a letter telling him that his father, Makihisa Tohno, has died, and he is to come back home. Soon after going back to the mansion to live with his sister Akiha and their maids Hisui and Kohaku, he meets an eccentric yet endearing older student called Ciel and a mysterious blonde woman. A series of strange events turns his peaceful life upside down and leads him to learn more about his powers and make some shocking discoveries about his past...
