Modern Warfare 2 Hits 25 Million Players, DLC News This Week - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 09 March 2010 / 3,324 Views

Robert Bowling, the Director of Communications and Community Manager for Infinity Ward, nicknamed "fourzerotwo" (The area code for Nebraska, while he lives in California, thus, no chance of him being a rap fan) on Twitter just wanted to let us know what Infinity Ward has on it's mind on a recent tweet:

"...annnd we JUST hit 25 MILLION unique players on Modern Warfare 2. Insanity! Also, got a lot of #MW2 DLC details coming this week! FINALLY!"

Insanity? Maybe that's the reason Kotick just laughs all the way to the bank, or maybe because Modern Warfare 2 is arguably one of the most popular games in the actuality, sells like bottled water and now has DLC on it's way (and it's probably this), and it will definitelly make them millions.

On another tweet, Robert Bowling gets specific with his numbers, telling us "That's 25 million unique across all platforms. Most on Xbox 360, then a close 2nd goes to PS3, [with] millions more on PC."

Cheers for Infinity Ward, even though they went through so much trouble recently, with all the lawsuits and firings.

This unique players thing was touted for Modern Warfare 1 as well, and was also useless in determining much at all.

@GreyianStorm
Used copies but also just different accounts on the same console. PC version sold maybe half of that 5m figure.

17.5m unique players are listed for Halo 3 for example. Not all 7m people bought the game second hand.

Ive played on 7 different PSN account with my copy of the game.

Shows how these "unique players aren't as unique as they think.

Maybe I'm interpreting this wrongly, but it seems to suggest that there is a sizeable number of players playing used copies. If we say there are 5 million PC sales, that would mean there are 3 million sales missing. Interesting.
