Capcom announced it has moved up the release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword by three weeks from September 25 to September 4.

"We are delighted to bring Onimusha: Way of the Sword to you earlier on September 4, 2026," announced Capcom.

The game will launch for the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store.

Read details on the game below:

Onimusha: Way of the Sword slashed its way into the show with director Satoru Nihei revealing a fearsome new foe players will duel in the highly anticipated swordplay action game when it launches.

The footage provides a first look at Dohatsu-ten, a terrifyingly fast and bloodthirsty Genma. After carving its way into the mortal realm, this winged warrior from the depths of hell locks blades with protagonist Miyamoto Musashi in an intense boss battle.

Pre-orders for Onimusha: Way of the Sword are available now and include the “Sealed Curse” sword skin and “Lion Dog” charm as bonuses. Players can also experience the game’s satisfying action today by downloading the Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo now.

GTA VI maybe? Of course the game is probably in a good shape too to be able to make this move, but I can't help wondering whether they considered GTA VI as well. It wasn't necessarily too close to this one, but some extra time between the releases of the two probably won't hurt either.

Not GTA but the crowded late September schedule. There were about 8 note worthy titles releasing on the week between the 15th and 28th.

The month is already looking better with Phantom Blade pushed to October and this no longer arriving in the tail of Wolverine whilst going to head to head with Control Resonant, Silent Hill & Ace Combat (was most worried about Control tbh)

The month is still a bit overcrowded. Control would benefit from moving to early November & Silent Hill late October. But there's at least room for each to get decent coverage now

That's definitely a great point.

The fact they're on top off development to be able to do this is great. I feel games arriving later in the month like Control 2 are still in danger of being lost in the crowd
