The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned Europe sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in Europe and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

Hope momentum start dropping hard starting new year. Nintendo been getting really greedy, boycotting is the only way they'll drop prices on everything they have! Seriously, black Friday games on sale for only 25% off?? Fooking ridiculous!! Should've been 50% off

Europe, what or is there a 3rd party game can keep this momentum going?

The switch 2 will continue pulling ahead till the end of the year. After that the gap will probably close a bit once the switch 1 hits its full holiday season. It's really only after the first holiday that we'll see how the momentum compares between both systems.

The fact that bigger 3rd party games will be on the system day one will likely help maintain momentum in general

For example, Nintendo hasn't gotten a "new" Resident Evil game since Revelations 1 but will have RE9 the same day as everyone else which is a massive change

After Metroid, my next purchases will be Final Fantasy 7, Dragon Quest 7, Resident Evil 9 and Fatal Frame 2. Nintendo hasn't been this good with multiplatform releases since the SNES, or ever, since there wasn't much overlap between the SNES and Genesis libraries actually.
Oh yeah, and the latest Assassin's Creed is dropping same week as Metroid too.
