This monthly series compares the aligned launch sales of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

It should be noted the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X|S had a worldwide launch, while the PlayStation 5 launch was split over the course of two weeks. Also, the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017, while the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launched during the holidays in November 2020.

PS5 Vs. Xbox Series X|S Vs. Switch Global:

Through the first 31 months available worldwide the Nintendo Switch is ahead of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Switch is ahead of the PS5 by 0.35 million units and is 16.84 million units ahead of the Xbox Series X|S. The Switch is ahead of the Xbox Series X|S by 16.49 million units.

The Switch has sold 38.80 million in 31 months worldwide, while the PS5 sold 38.45 million units and the Xbox Series X|S 21.96 million units.

Looking at the marketshare through 31 months, the Switch is in the lead. The Switch has a 39.1 percent marketshare, the PS5 sits at 38.8 percent, and the Xbox Series X|S at 22.1 percent.

Through the first 31 months available in the US the PlayStation 5 is ahead of the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 is ahead of the Switch by 1.03 million units and is 3.43 million units ahead of the Xbox Series X|S. The Switch is ahead of the Xbox Series X|S by 2.40 million units.

The PS5 has sold 14.23 million in 31 months in the US, while the Switch sold 13.20 million units and the Xbox Series X|S 10.80 million units.

Looking at the marketshare through 31 months, the PS5 currently leads. The PS5 has a 37.2 percent marketshare, the Switch sits at 34.5 percent, and the Xbox Series X|S at 28.3 percent.

Through the first 31 months available in Europe the PlayStation 5 is ahead of the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 is ahead of the Switch by 1.65 million units and is 5.70 million units ahead of the Xbox Series X|S. The Switch is ahead of the Xbox Series X|S by 4.06 million units.

The PS5 has sold 11.68 million in 31 months in Europe, while the Switch sold 10.03 million units and the Xbox Series X|S 5.98 million units.

Looking at the marketshare through 31 months, the PlayStation 5 currently leads. The PS5 has a 42.2 percent marketshare, the Switch sits at 36.2 percent, and the Xbox Series X|S at 21.6 percent.

Through the first 31 months available in Japan the Switch is ahead of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S by a wide margin. The Switch is ahead of the PS5 by 5.88 million units and is 9.03 million units ahead of the Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 is ahead of the Xbox Series X|S by 3.15 million units.

The Switch has sold 9.47 million units in 31 months in Japan, while the PS5 has sold 3.59 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S 0.44 million units.

Looking at the marketshare through 31 months, the Switch currently leads. The Switch has a 70.1 percent marketshare, the PS5 sits at 26.6 percent, and the Xbox Series X|S at 3.3 percent.

It is a victory for the PS5, it is a 500$ product versus a 350$ one.

I’m not sure I agree as the switch is sold at a profit and the ps5 is sold at a loss. For me it is more impressive to sell the switch for a lot more than it costs to produce than sell a product at a loss. But in revenue ps5 leads by far.

wrong. Nintendo made profit with the Switch from Day 1.

At this point launch aligned the Switch OLED hadn't released yet.
Regardless of that, this isn't about revenue.

let's see how long the ps5 can keep up with the switch. if it lasts for another year it will be a great feat since the switch is a portable console and the switch is a hybrid and portable console.
