Capcom announced the  remake of Resident Evil 4 will also launch for the PlayStation 4, alongside the already announced PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam versions.

A Resident Evil Showcase live stream will take place in October that will share more details on the remake.

Read details on the game below:

Resident Evil 4 is a remake of the original Resident Evil 4 released in 2005. Reawakened for 2023, Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original while using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics.

As a title that set the standard for the later Resident Evil franchise, the original Resident Evil 4 introduced the third-person-camera to the long-running series, which has shipped over 125 million units worldwide since the first title debuted in 1996. This new perspective brought players into the action and horrors encountered by protagonist Leon S. Kennedy during his daring rescue mission.

Resident Evil 4 joins Leon S. Kennedy six years after his hellish experiences in the biological disaster of Raccoon City. His unmatched resolve caused him to be recruited as an agent reporting directly to the president of the United States. With the experience of multiple missions on his back, Leon is dispatched to rescue the president’s recently kidnapped daughter. Leon tracks her to a secluded European village, however after making first contact he discovers a fervor beyond reason grips the local populace.

Now, this reimagined tale of survival in the face of overwhelming terror returns to deliver a visually stunning modern gaming experience that is true to the promise of the original release. Many team members from the production of 2019’s top-selling and critically acclaimed Resident Evil 2 also make their return to delve deeper into the essence of Resident Evil 4. Fans and newcomers alike can revel in both the new and familiar, as RE Engine heightens the original’s creative direction to tell a story that is darker and even more unsettling.

The remake of Resident Evil 4 will launch on March 24, 2023 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam. It will also have support for PlayStation VR2.

90+ million more PS4s than PS5, makes sense

Easy decision to be honest: foundation for development is already there from the RE2 and RE2 Remakes, which launched as only PS4/Xbox One before later getting current-gen upgrades. And PS4 has that massive 117+ million consoles sold. I'm guessing Xbox One was left out this time around as it is so difficult to get these current AAA games running smoothly on base Xbox One/Xbox One S. Add in the virtually non-existent install base for Xbox One in Japan, and it makes sense to cut that platform out.

Yeah I think you nailed it right on the head! At least now that a good portion of these Japanese games are now releasing on Series X/S, it's already a 180 degree turnaround for Xbox in Japan, which is a great sign. Especially after Xbox's TGS showcase today!

Awesome. PS5s are still impossible to find in stores.

Not particularly surprising. There's still a huge active userbase there.

I love the PS4 but its continued software support needs to die. I guess software sales are still strong enough to entice publishers...

A lot of publishers I imagine don't want to let go of the 115+ million PS4 userbase yet. Can't blame them I guess.

True. I hope we don't see a next gen for atleast another 12 years. That way when it does release, all people would be going mad dying to play next gen titles only, instead of the first 3 years going to last gen,

The PS4 still has a large user base and PS5s are still expensive and hard to find in some places.

PS4 does have the larger base, but at least at it's launch Horizon Forbidden West sold quite a bit better on PS5 with 70% of its sales on PS5 to 30% on PS4. And that was even with the ps4 disc being cheaper and having a free upgrade. Resident Evil 4 remake should be on both ps4 and ps5, but at some point we do have to move on especially if that ratio gets significantly bigger in the ps5's favor.

there is also the japan factor to consider, considering the PS5 is near dead there ATM at times

Would be nice if they could make a game that takes full advantage of the next gen architecture. The announcement was funny. Was expecting some reveal or footage, but no, a ps4 announcement lol.

Xbox one snubbed why woudnt they release it there as well?

I hope that the versions for the more powerful systems does not suffer from them creating a PS4 version as well. I will buy the best game ever a fifth time no matter what, but I rather it will be the best it can be on my PS5.

Looking back at the last console transition, the PS3/X360 duo was basically being phased out of major game development in mid-2015, about 20 months after PS4/X1 launch. RE4make is going to be released about 28 months after the 9th gen console launch, and it isn't alone in terms of having versions available for older hardware. Dead Island 2, Hogwarts Legacy, Like a Dragon Ishin, Assassin's Creed, Diablo 4, Street Fighter 6... they're all going to be on PS4 and/or X1.

I think they done the math and decided the decided that the main interest for last gen version will come from Japan.

Considering that we are in a state this gen where people can't just easily go to their local Wal-mart and pick up an X box series X or a PS5 something like this just makes sense from a financial standpoint for Capcom.

Factor in that the foundation for these remakes has already been established on the previous gen and it just adds to that sentiment.

Perhaps we won't see that true next gen RE experience for a while but as long as Capcom is able to hit it out of the park with these recent remakes (For all that is holy Capcom, do Code: Veronica!!!!!) it will at the very least make the wait more bearable.
