Publisher Warner Bros. Games and developer WB Games Montreal announced Gotham Knights has gone gold. This means principal development for the game is complete and what is left is to fix bugs that might be discovered.

Gotham Knights will launch for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on October 25.

Gotham Knights is a brand-new open world, third-person action RPG featuring the Batman Family as players step into the roles of Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin, a new guard of trained DC Super Heroes who must rise up as the protectors of Gotham City in the wake of Batman’s death. An expansive, criminal underworld has swept through the streets of Gotham, and it is now up to these new heroes to protect the city, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops and fear to its criminals. Back in the day, going Gold meant that the development was done and the game was ready to ship, and that included having taken care of the bugs.

Now it only means they are satisfied with sending it to print while they work out on day 1 patches.

Now it means basically nothing. Day one patches are gigantic for many games because when they went "gold" they weren't even close to finished.

I would say that the only real think we get from going gold is that the release date is as firm as one can expect.

I soured on the game quickly when I saw numbers popping up after you hit enemies, because I assumed it would be an Avengers style microtransaction fest. Surprisingly, there will apparently be no microtransactions, so maybe I should give it another look.

I think the problem with this one is similar, although to a lesser degree, to the issues with Metroid Federation Force. It has been quite a while since we've had a game in the Arkham Series, so, I don't think people are going to be that eager for a spin off at this time.
