Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Ships 10 Million Units - Sales

Capcom announced today Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has shipped over 10 million units worldwide. This figure is up from 9.8 million units shipped as of June 30, 2021.

"Released in January 2017, Resident Evil 7 biohazard builds upon the series' roots of fear, exploration and tense atmosphere," said Capcom in a press release. "The game's system underwent a dramatic shift from its previous third-person camera to a new first-person perspective in order to provide an overwhelming, deeply immersive horror experience, garnering high praise from major review sites and other media.

"As part of its growth of digital download sales in recent years, Capcom worked on strategic pricing for the title through seasonal and event-driven discounts in order to strengthen demand among a wider range of game players. Further, in May 2021 when Capcom released the sequel and latest title in the series, Resident Evil Village, it executed promotions to leverage synergies between the two titles such as with the release of a bundle containing both games.

"Capcom succeeded with these promotions, achieving long-running sales in excess of 1 million units in each fiscal year since the release of Resident Evil 7 biohazard, leading the game to be the first in the series to break 10 million cumulative worldwide shipments."

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard launched for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in January 2017.

This is awesome news for Capcom, great news for the franchise, but more importantly amazing news for gamers.

I feel that RE7 didn't get the credit it deserved when it first released but it's quality shined through all those months after launch to convince many out there that where a little apprehensive to give it a shot.

For all those that maybe missed out on RE7 or were put off by its change to first person trust me, it is the best RE game in probably a decade. While I really enjoyed my time with RE8 (and it is a contender for GOTY.) it felt more action oriented and less on the tense, creepy side.

RE7 stayed true to the roots of the franchise with its creepy atmosphere, low inventory, limited space, save points and everything else fans of the franchise have come to expect over the years.

Re8 is cut more from the same cloth as RE4 while RE7 is cut more from the same cloth as RE1,2,3, & Code Veronica.

For any veterans of the franchise RE7 will remind you of why you fell in love with the series to begin with.

Agreed! RE7 quickly became one of my all-time favorite games. I really can't choose which one I like more, this or RE2 Remake...

I've been playing the Resident Evil games since the first one came out on the PS1, and I honestly enjoyed 7 a great deal. Glad to see it has continued to do well.

I wonder the sales of the cloud version in Japan, and also wonder why it didn't come to Europe/US already

Congrats to Capcom and the RE team on this milestone! I've been an RE fan for a loooong time. Here is my current list, in order of most beloved to least, of RE games:

1) Resident Evil 2 (original, PS1)
2) Resident Evil (original, PS1; then later Director's Cut DualShock Ver on PS1)
3) Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (original, PS1)
4) Resident Evil 4 (GameCube; then later on PS2, then PS3, then PS4)
5) Resident Evil Code: Veronica (Dreamcast; then later Code: Veronica X on PS2 & PS3)
6) Resident Evil 7 biohazard (PS4)
7) Resident Evil Village (PS5)
8) Resident Evil 5 (PS3)
9) Resident Evil 2 (Remake) (PS4)
10) Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (Remake) (PS4)
11) Resident Evil (Remake) (GameCube)
12) Resident Evil Zero (GameCube)
13) Resident Evil 6 (PS3)
14) Resident Evil Outbreak (PS2)
15) Resident Evil Survivor (PS1)
16) Resident Evil Resistance (PS4)

I have never gotten around to playing the Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles, or Revelations 1 & 2. And I have not played any of the other ridiculous spinoff titles either lol
