Nintendo has announced Metroid Dread for the Nintendo Switch. It will launch on October 8.

View the announcement trailer below:

Here is an overview of the game:

Join Intergalactic Bounty Hunter Samus Aran in Her First New 2D Metroid Story in 19 Years

Samus’ story continues after the events of the Metroid™ Fusion game when she descends upon planet ZDR to investigate a mysterious transmission sent to the Galactic Federation. The remote planet has become overrun by vicious alien lifeforms and chilling mechanical menaces. Samus is more agile and capable than ever, but can she overcome the inhuman threat stalking the depths of ZDR?

Face Off Against Unrelenting E.M.M.I. Robots

Once DNA-extracting research machines, the imposing E.M.M.I. are now hunting Samus down. Tensions are high as you evade these E.M.M.I. to avoid a cruel death while finding a way to take them down. Find out what turned these robotic wonders into the scourge of ZDR and escape with your life.

Feel Samus’ Power Grow as You Gain Maneuvers and Abilities

Acquire new and familiar abilities as you traverse the many environments of this dangerous world. Parkour over obstacles, slide through tight spaces, counter enemies, and battle your way through the planet. Return to areas and use your new abilities to find upgrades, alternate paths, and a way forward. Explore the sprawling map, evade and destroy E.M.M.I. robots, and overcome the dread plaguing ZDR.

This is freaking surreal, (in the best way) it feels like if Valve put out a release trailer for Half Life 3

not quite as a half life 3 trailer but this is a great surprise.

The last new 2D Metroid came out 2 years before Half-Life 2 so I'd say it's on the same level.

I was about to be like, 19 years? What about Fusion? Then I realized I played Fusion 19 years ago and felt old and stupid. lol. Time really does fly by.

That's what's we've been talking about for DECADES. And it's shaping to be as atmospheric as Fusion. Hope they cope with isolation as well.

Metroid Prime 4 is part of the Prime sub series. While Metroid Dread (5) is a sequel to Metroid Fusion (4) released in 2002. These are part of the main series

thanks for the clarification!

Yep, he's right! Metroid 1/Metroid Zero Mission (remake of 1) - > Metroid 2: Return of Samus/Metroid: Samus Returns (remake of 2) - > Super Metroid (Metroid 3) - > Metroid Fusion (Metroid 4)

It would be awesome if we get a remake of Super Metroid!

I'm thankful for the new Metroid game too. I just thought it would be cool if we get that as well.

If you'll remake it you'll screw it. Some Games remained perfect the way they were back in the time. Super Metroid feels like an excellent new metroidvania every time you play it nowadays.

Good point. I should play Super Metroid sometime.

More people can play it if they remake it, only a few people can bother to search and play the original game, no matter how good it is.
