Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 'Development is Moving Forward Quite Well' - News

Final Fantasy VII Remake co-director Tetsuya Nomura in a live stream said that development on the second part of Final Fantasy VII Remake is progressing well.

"Development is moving forward quite well," he said. "I’d like to perhaps make a proper announcement when the timing is right, but Cloud is running through mother nature.

"You’ll be able to enjoy a somewhat different atmosphere from the first game… Well, things are progressing nicely, so please wait for it. The next game starts directly after Intergrade, so I hope you will also get to play Intergrade."

These sorts of developer updates are the most empty they can muster.

For once I’d like to hear a developer emphatically say “Development of Title X is moving along quite poorly” - and say nothing else! :)

The over reliance of nomura is making him a liability,

Take some load of him for krist sakes square enix.

If he had breathing space nomura can go back at making the best works we know him for!

I'm still curious why the development is taking so long and it's being developed in parts......if it was a brand new game, I'd understand more. Not from 20+ year old game, remake or remaster. But by judging Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3, SquareEnix dev teams tend to go through development hell lol

All these titles do have a common theme. Nomura. XV was FFvs13. KH3 was only delayed because he was working on that for so long. FF7Remake has him involved heavily which is why the story goes weird near the end. I think honestly, SquEnix need to ditch their old guard devs and creators and get in new fresh blood that grew up with FF to bring it back as being the biggest RPG in the world.

A valid point, but with most they at least stick to their already established narrative, infact FFX did an exceptional job of this based on how it not only established the characters but in it's final solution explaining what was going on. I literally had no idea what I was fighting or why in that last fight of FF7R.

I'm not going to get into the argument over terminology, but in terms of development, there's no reason this should be easier than a brand new game. They're not actually reusing any assets from the PS1 game, so everything has to be made from scratch. The only place they might be saving some time is at the conceptual phase (i.e. overall story, character designs, concept art).

They can build on their work from the first part, so it shouldn't take as long as that, but it shouldn't be any easier to develop than any other sequel.

For all intents and purposes it IS a brand new game. Sure, much of the world and character building existed prior, but all the assets, gameplay, graphics, style, and details are all completely new.

The character models and presumably combat system will be similar, but all the rest of the assets (Voice acting, animations, world models, etc) are from scratch. And knowing Square-Enix, I imagine the gameplay will be tweaked, as will the character models (Since we'll be getting new weapons and the like). All the FMVs and cutscenes will be completely new...etc

At most you're looking at 20-25% reused assets.

If not reusing any assets makes a game a new game only new IP's can be considered new games. Using some assets of a prior game which are still up to date doesn't really make this less of a fully new game. Otherwise games sequels of existing games also can't be considered new. Also the models will probably be upgraded.

I got to respect the work Square is willing to put into this remake unlike other companies who simply use remasters (costing €40 to €60) to make money fast.

It’s a remake, not a remaster. For all intents and purposes, it’s a new game.
