Sony Discussed Going Higher Than $70 for PS5 Games, According to Report - News

Several video game publishers and developers have decided to raise the price of their games for the first time in 15 years from $60 to $70. However, not all are on board, at least not yet.

A new report from Bloomberg suggests that Sony at one point was in discussion to raise games for the PlayStation 5 even higher before it decided on $70.

Yoshio Osaki, the head of IDG Consulting, expects to see more and more games launching at $70 as time goes on as the cost of developing games continues to increase.

"Not all publishers will launch next-gen games at $70," said Osaki. "However, we do anticipate that a growing percentage of games will launch at $70, but not all at once and not uniformly across every publisher or every game franchise."

Capcom CFO Kenkichi Nomura added, "We believe game software’s price should be determined by how much money consumers are willing to pay for the quality, not by how much money we spend to make that game."

No thanks. Hopefully services like GamePass keeps the industry in check. We dont need $70 games and we definity don't need higher than that.

Well they did.. in Europe. Here a AAA first-party game like Demon’s Souls (standard edition) costs 80€ which is around $94.

I'm so glad I went all digital at the start of the gen. American prices are awesome!

The 80 euros includes tax while the 70 USD does not. But even then it is still a bit more here in Europe. Mediamarkt does sell Demon Souls for about 67 euros though on physical media.

I prefer lower game prices, of course. But, I don't see any problem with pubs raising game prices. These companies exist to make money. If gamers will pay $70, then that's the right price. That's econ 101. Now, we'll see how the market actually responds over the next year or two. If $70 is actually too high, pubs will get the picture and prices will fall back to $60. My guess is that uniform pricing is over. There are more ways to get games now, and hugely different costs to produce them. Some games give players years of content, whereas others give us 12 hours of fun and then start collecting dust. My thinking is that the market will say that these games should have different prices. Now that pubs are varying pricing, we'll axtt get to see the market work.

Good luck with that. I rarely pay $60 as is.

Thee only way $70 game prices would fly is if Sony put a ban on all MTX for any game published on their system.

This is why Microsoft should never give up video games.
Sony in addition to being only copiers are also thieves, as soon as they have a slight advantage they abuse their community, just have to look back and see the 1st prices of the PS3 when Microsoft had just arrived and that Nintendo was at its lowest with their GameCube.

This being the new norm is gonna sting,
As long as the quality of the game is great and no more microtransactions and season pass dlcs then we good with 70 like God of war!
