Here is an overview of the game:
The wait is over! Rash, Zitz, and Pimple are returning at last to smash-hit their way through an all-new action-packed adventure of choreographed chaos, and couch co-op may never be the same again.
One to three players will take control of the Battletoads and team up to storm through wild and unpredictable stages with only one rule – expect the unexpected. Teamwork makes the dream work in a drop-in, drop-out gameplay blast, filled with over-the-top gameplay moments that anyone can enjoy, but only a True ‘Toad’ can master.
With a unique hand-animated cartoon style and packed with memorable characters and locations, the Battletoads are back for a larger-than-life brawl across the universe that promises to be fun alone, and unforgettable together.

Currently sitting at 72 on Opencritic. I gave it a whirl. Better than I thought it'd be, but nothing compared to Streets of Rage 4.
I liked SOR4, but i never understood the comparison. Its Apples to Oranges.
Comparing a revived 90's beat'em up franchise to a revived 90's beat'em up franchise is apples to oranges? lol wut?
Battletoads isn't a Beat em up, its a genre mesh up. It has beat em up elements yes but its entire focus is different. its like comparing Mortal Combat to Smash Bros. Very different games even though fighting is in it.
I enjoyed Streets of Rage 4, but it simply isn't doing what Battletoads is doing. Streets of Rage 4 is a pretty straight forward beat em' up and its really good for what its doing. While Battletoads is like a cartoon mixed with a beat em up, more content, tons of dialogue, more variety in the gameplay, just much more personality.
I don't blame you for comparing the two games. But now that we actually have Battletoads, its clearly trying to be something different and so far I like it. I thought Streets of Rage 4 was going to trounce Battletoads in quality, but that doesn't seem to be the case based on what I've played.
As Azznation suggested, these are very different games. The good news is both are impressive and enjoyable.
Well, if Battletoads isn't a beat'em up because it has other things in it, then FFX must not be a JRPG because it's got Blitzball, tons of cutscenes, and little to no exploration. It's still a beat'em up. Just one with random stuff watering the real gameplay down. If they ditched the non-beat'em up sections, added more beat'em up levels, and went with a 90's cartoon art style, they could knock it out of the park.
I actually think peppering in non-beat em' up content if fine to just to make the overall experience less tedious. I haven't finished the game yet, but it might have more beat em up levels than Streets of Rage 4.
I accidentally tapped add comment, so I will continue. At its core, I think Streets of Rage 4 is a better beat em' up. That's partly because it plays like Streets of Rage with modern ideas. However, Battletoads is also doing things I'm enjoying that Streets of Rage 4 simply wasn't attempting to do.
So I'm not looking at this like which is better. I think they're both games worth playing for different reasons. I'm also enjoying the story of Battletoads much more than I expected. Did anybody really enjoy the story of Streets of Rage 4? Its barely a thing you remember.
So iv played it.. my thoughts.. Amazing! Love the humor, love the gameplay and the artstyle grows on you. I can see why they went with this new direction. Than again i am a little bias towards this IP as its one i grew up with and loved. Dlala has done a fantastic job. Also its only $29 on Live and Steam and free on Gamepass.
It ain't free on Gamepass. It is included with Gamepass. Gamepass costs $15/ month for most people.
If you already have GP for other games than its free. If someone went to pay for GP just to play BT than they are ripping themselves off. Might as well pay that little bit more to own it for life.
@VAMatt - Gamepass is $10. $15 if you want Live included. Its also been $5 on PC since it launched, but should eventually be $10.
Although, I do agree content on Gamepass isn't free. However, if you're one of the people that converted your Live Gold time to Gamepass then its technically free.
Wonder if these people saying "Isn't free on gamepass" call the ps plus games free.
I certainly don't call PS plus or XBL games free. They're part of the package that you're paying for.
Gamepass is a collection of games that you rent monthly. None of them are free. They are a good deal for most people though, I think. I'm a subscriber, and happy with my decision to sign up for three years.
For me, Live and PSN games are free (if you are referring to the free monthly games given out) because people buy into those services to unlock the Multiplayer. They tossed in free games to make the service more appealing hence why they are called free games.
GamePass is a service you pay per month, if you are already subscribed than Battletoads is free since it cost that person nothing. If someone subbed to GP to play Battletoads than thats a different story.
