Phil Spencer: Microsoft Committed to Worldwide Launch of Xbox Series X - News

Microsoft this week made the Xbox Series X pre-order page available, however, the page doesn't let you pre-order the console and it does not provide a price point or release date for the console.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer speaking to former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime on the Talking Games podcast said he feels good about their supply chain when it comes to producing the console and he is committed to a worldwide launch of the Xbox Series X.

"In our supply chain, we feel good about the hardware side," said Spencer. "Feels like we’ll be able to get enough units. And you know, we’re pretty committed, as we’ve talked about to a worldwide launch, which regretfully, we didn’t do with Xbox One. You remember watching that from Nintendo campus. It took us months and months to hit some of the incredibly important markets and worldwide launch is important to us."

Microsoft plans to hold monthly events leading up to the launch of the Xbox Series X this Holiday season. We do know the July event will be focused on first-party games from Microsoft, with a first look at Halo: Infinite gameplay confirmed.

On the case of Xbox 1 it wasn't due to the lack of inventory or excess of demand though, it was just their "smart decision". Good that they will do worldwide launch now, let's see how much of the world they will cover outside of globally in USA.

What does "it was just their "smart decision"" even mean? Xbox 3, er... One, had a specific reason for constrained launch, even below original aims. That being localization for voice control which was "core feature" until it was later dropped. That aside, there are smaller national markets which may have bureaucratic impediments to launch... Although honestly I would be surprised if Series X launches in all ~200 of the world's countries simultaneus at launch, many are just too small and poor to bother with at first, same for Playstation... although as much stronger global brand it has more rationale to get there sooner or later.

Smart decision was an analysis of Selnor, that MS plan for 13 countries was much better than Sony for 31 countries.
