It's insane how popular the DS was. As fast and as popular the PS4 is selling 106Million in 6 years, the DS is STILL killing it by 34M units selling 140M in 6 years. The DS was selling 30M plus per year which is unheard of.

actually below 30M but close to it. and only for about 3 years, the other years are 20 and less, but still impressive.

If the PS4 doesn't start to shrink this gap, it won't be on track to beat the Game Boy for much longer. Man, I wish we had Game Boy hardware numbers...

PS4 will drop every year, but even when PS5 releases PS4 will remain on sale for another 2-3 years. By end of 2020 PS4 should be around 113-115 million.

120m is basically the minimum for the PS4. It would have to perform worse than the PS3 launch aligned from now on to not hit 120m and beat the gameboy.

PS3 sold 14.89m from 2013 onwards. So if PS4 just matched that 14.89m for 2020 onwards it would finish at 120.8m.

Then expect the gap to start to closing instead of widening then, and probably soon. I didn't say PS4 wouldn't beat Game Boy, I just made an observation about the chart, and wished that we could have had a PS4 vs. Game Boy chart because I think it would have been interesting to watch.

PS4 should be far ahead of 113M at the end of 2020. I bet around 120M. PS4 is beating gameboy by the end of the year like it or not. With the next 2-3 years I expect reaching 140M if sony do a price cut. If not then maybe 125M or 130M at most. PS4 will be closing the gap this year 100% because DS sold only 8M units through 2011, so no way PS4 selling less than that. With the next year DS selling 3M and then only 1M, the gap will start to close very fast, however it would be very hard for PS4 to close the gap completely as it would mean to do 154M lifetime.

@Yo33331 No, you're overestimating PS4 sales this year. It sold 14.1m in 2019 and finished with 106m, it's obviously going to sell less in 2020 then 2019 so it doesn't have a chance of hitting 120m. I think it will end the year at about 116m sold.

Thing is, PS3 and 360 became popular later on in its life cycle so you can't compare really. PS4 is already sub 200k WW without an official visual announcement

PS3 was also sub-200k at this point. In the equivalent week (12th Jan 2013) it sold 180k to PS4's 192k. Next week the PS3 sold 153k.

PS3 sold 8.25m in 2013, PS4 is going to sell more.

@ Barkley I expect sony to price cut it to 199$ and that's why I think PS4 will do 14M this year, but we will see
