The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

 

Xbox One Vs. PS3 Global:

Gap change in latest month: 774,867 – PS3

Gap change over last 12 months:  5,298,625 – PS3

Total Lead: 5,718,323 – PS3

Xbox One Total Sales: 28,279,951

PlayStation 3 Total Sales: 33,998,274

January 2017 is the 39th month of the Xbox One being on sale. The gap increased during the month when compared to the PlayStation 3’s 39th month on sale by 774,867 units in favor of the PlayStation 3 and by 5.30 million units in the last 12 months. The PlayStation 3 currently leads by 5.72 million units.

Both consoles launched in November. The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, while the Xbox One launched in November 2013. The Xbox One has sold 28.28 million units, while the PlayStation 3 sold 34.00 million units.

What??? Even PS3 is selling better than XB1? Never see it coming...

While PS3 picked up momentum, X1 appears to have stagnated. PS3 eventually sold 86m units and counting and I'm thinking X1 will end up 50-60m

Wait how? if the trend continues and the scorpio will cut the x1's life even shorter then the x1 should not even get to 35m.

is that a new system? I didn't think they were making exclusive games for it?

You are right. I guess Im just asuming that it will be diferent. The specs are much diferent so im sure there will be some games that will be exclusive. But thats just me asuming that it will happen.

I count it like the PS4 pro only more powerful and probably more expensive. Whether that extra power will actually make a difference if they're both doing 4k we won't know till launch. If they make exclusives I think the X1 owners are a big enough fanbase that they would be pissed.
