The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.
PS4 Vs. PS3 Japan:
Gap change in latest month: 27,297 – PS3
Gap change over last 12 months: 392,692 – PS4
Total Lead: 126,921 – PS3
PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 2,935,979
PlayStation 3 Total Sales: 3,062,900
April 2016 is the 29th month of the PlayStation 4 being on sale in Japan. The gap increased during the month when compared to the PlayStation 3’s 29th month on sale by 27,297 units in favor of the PlayStation 4 and by 392,692 units in favor of the PlayStation 4 in the last 12 months. The PlayStation 3 currently leads by 126,921 units.
The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. The PlayStation 4 has sold 2.94 million units in its first 29 months, while its predecessor the PlayStation 3 sold 3.06 million units.

When the big titles arrive on the PS4 they will turn this around in favour of the PS4.
The PS4 will pass the PS3 in no time. Just give it a few months. There are so many huge games coming out.
Yakuza 3 and Resident Evil 5 came out in the PS3's 29th month. Next month the PS3 bundle with Advent Children and the FFXIII demo came out.
